The Wall Street Journal reports that New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg introduced today a coalition of mayors and business leaders to advocate immigration reform.

The coalition will push for legalization of undocumented immigrants and for “more strictly fining businesses that hire illegal workers.”

The coalition includes the usual suspects: Bloomberg, Phil Gordon of Phoenix and Antonio Villaraigosa of Los Angeles.

Even Rupert Murdoch, the CEO of News Corp., which owns Fox News and the Wall Street Journal, is part of it. One notable absence, however, is San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom.

Newsom’s office has not returned our calls.
