It’s finals week at San Francisco State University. Instead of taking an exam or writing a term paper the Race and Power in the United States class at the ethnic studies department organized a fundraiser.

The $777 raised would go to Derechos Humanos, a grassroots organization in Arizona that’s working on repealing the controversial immigrant law.

The event on Wednesday at the Bollywood café featured music and testimonials from community members.

So what’s going to happen now that schools out? Ryan Thayer, one of the organizers, said many of his classmates have shown interest in continuing to organize and fund-raise to help other organizations in Arizona.
