Hey Kids! is a weekly feature looking at what’s coming up for families and kids of all ages.
“Wow! I’ve been here for 37 years and have never seen this,” a woman said yesterday. Everything is blooming at All In Common Community Garden. The lilies cue fanfare and the beehive beckons, “Honey…”
Over at Parque Niños Unidos, Cynthia posted the following good news on Mission Parents Group:
“This year there will be NO Round UP (chemical weed killer) sprayed at Parque Niños Unidos. Last year they sprayed it on the field and all around the playground with very minimal notice to the community. Many of us made some noise afterwards as this stuff is pretty lethal (see links [here]). This year Neil, the PNU gardener who works for Park and Rec, has let us know he is pulling all the weeds by hand and using a weed wacker. Neil has been working hard on his hands and knees, so if you see him pulling weeds please thank him! He told me today it’s creating much more work for him, but he is definitely respectful of the community’s wishes. This is a huge win for families and kids of the PNU community!”
And while you’re giving love for Neil and Mother Earth, don’t forget to thank the kids cleaning up Dolores Park too.
Come see saber-toothed cat skull fossils at Paxton Gate. Next door at 826 Valencia, a young audiophile trips the light-eating fantastic in “The Sirens of Spring” by Lynn Rubenzer. Speaking of photo-friendly things, Mission Pie has a wall newly tiled with Sarah Wonson’s polaroids. Picture perfect with farm fresh pie.
