SUMMARY:Community Music Center: Introduction to Blues Workshop with Larry Dunn
DESCRIPTION:Get ready for your next jam session and explore the wide variety of blues grooves with CMC guitar teacher Larry Dunn. This workshop will introduce music from legendary artists that defined particular groove styles such as Magic Sam’s boogie\, B.B. King’s blues rhumba/mambo\, Jimmy Reed’s shuffle\, and Muddy Waters’ “mojo” groove. He will demonstrate some of the iconic grooves\, including bass lines for workshop participants to learn (by ear and singing along\, if so inclined)\, which form important vocabulary for all instrumentalists—particularly in the rhythm section and often played by the horns. This demonstration gives an overview of material that will be covered in the new Electric Blues Workshop\, offered Winter Quarter at CMC. \nSunday\, November 12 at 3pm\nFree\nRegister here to attend – https://forms.gle/spVdjijPUMMnwMSZ7 \nLarry Dunn studied with Dale Bruning (Johnny Smith\, Bill Frisell) and Jackie King (Willie Nelson). He signed with/recorded for Warner Bros.\, Rounder\, and Rhino record companies. Larry has written\, recorded\, and produced 7 indie CDs. As a published songwriter he has had music placed in film and television\, MUZAK\, Pandora\, and been recorded by other artists and included on compilation CDs. Larry has toured extensively throughout the U.S. and opened for Stevie Ray Vaughn\, Four Tops\, Bonnie Raitt\, Tower of Power\, Dr. John\, Stylistics\, Robben Ford and John Lee Hooker\, among many others. He has worked with Big Joe Turner\, Bo Diddley\, Steve Cropper\, John Oates and Eddie Money.
