SUMMARY:ATA: Archive Fever 2: Soviet Silver
DESCRIPTION:Our second Archive Fever set serves as a ‘release’ of ultra-rare photo-chemical silver prints (here screened on film and video) from those legendary Soviet movie labs! Spotlit are two prodigal makers who in fact traveled to Tajikistan (!) to both restore and re-use the redoubtable 16mm archives that were left in limbo after the withdrawal of Soviet agency. These masters of re-mediation each returned with a satchel of odd educational propaganda items marginalized in the New Order\, and we’ll enjoy the aesthetic rewards of these Cold War artifacts tonight! \nMark Boswell world-premieres Lost and Found Bureau of Tajikistan\, and John Davis marries mod-synth tracks to Listen! and Stories of the Solar System. \nSupporting is a truck-load of similarly exotic kino curiosities\, both in archival and remixed versions: Thanks to Keith Sanborn\, the West Coast debut of Esfir Shub’s old-school Stalin ode With Heartfelt Sincerity (exc.)\, Alexander Miller’s fest-fave Incubate\, Stefan Rusu’s wry JERES\, and the graphic industrial-orgy that is the 1939 Glimpses of Soviet Science. A final title\, D.I. Yashin Revival of Organisms is placed last on the bill for those who prefer the Life Sciences to be demonstrated in less mechanistic ways. Vodka shots and Moscow on 16mm! \n$11 DOORS @ 7:30 SHOW @ 8:00

DESCRIPTION:Z Space and Arlekin Players present:\nOur Class\nWritten by Tadeusz Słobodzianek\nDirected by Igor Golyak \nStarring Chulpan Khamatova\nFeaturing Richard Topol\, Jeremy Beazlie\, Ryan Czerwonko\, Stephen Ochsner\, Deborah Martin\, Gene Ravvin\, Kirill Rubtsov\, Ilia Volok\, Gigi Watson \nMarch 27 – April 5\nat Z Space’s Steindler Stage \nFollowing its New York premiere at BAM\, and subsequent Off-Broadway and Boston runs\, the critically acclaimed OUR CLASS comes to Z Space’s Steindler Stage in San Francisco! \nTen classmates — five Jewish and five Catholic Poles — who grow up as friends and neighbors\, then find themselves pitted against each other in the face of entrenched antisemitism\, with life and death consequences. Inspired by real life events surrounding a 1941 pogrom in a small Polish village\, this shocking\, timely story follows their lives from childhood through eight decades in a new contemporary production of Tadeusz Słobodzianek’s masterpiece\, from Ukrainian-born Jewish director Igor Golyak. \n“I’m so happy to finally be working with Igor Golyak and on such an important play as OUR CLASS. Especially now. I saw the performance in New York and was quite moved by it. I want to speak loudly about what happens to people when they are overwhelmed by hatred and war. It will be a wonderful experience to collaborate on this play.” \n-Chulpan Khamatova \nOUR CLASS is produced in association with\nPurchase Tickets\nShow Schedule \nPreviews: Fri\, 3/27\, 7:30pm & Sat\, 3/28\, 1:30pm\nOpening Night: Sat\, 3/28\, 7:30pm\nRun-of-Show: Sun\, 3/29 through Sun\, 4/5 (times and dates below)

SUMMARY:Manny’s: Let's Explore Chocolate
DESCRIPTION:Round table on chocolate in the Living Room back tables. Bring curiosity and a chocolate to share. Space is limited\, RSVP. \nLet me host you into this endless and delicious topic. \nThis event is a round table discussion in the Living Room\, at the back tables. What you bring to the conversation is curiosity and chocolate to share. Your contribution may be a bar or a confection\, a nostalgic favorite\, a sample of a rare cacao\, or even something you dislike and want to learn more about. \nHere are a few infrequently asked questions about chocolate: \n What actually is chocolate?\n Why does chocolate resonate so vividly with us in body\, mind\, and spirit?\n Cacao is called the “Food of the Gods” and is highly nutritious. What is science showing us about phytonutrients that benefit our health and well-being?\n How might we think about chocolate in contemporary culture and our shared human history? The oldest confirmed evidence of cacao use by our ancestors is approximately 5\,000 years ago. Our history and future with chocolate are worth discussing.\n We have a complex language for discussing wine—why not cacao and chocolate? \nWho is David? \nI have fifteen years of professional experience and a lifetime of enthusiasm for chocolate. As a chocolatier\, I make delightful creations with amazing chocolate in micro-batches and offer them online and at farmers markets. My career in chocolate is rooted in pastry and chocolate production. Working with farmers\, researchers\, chocolate makers\, chefs\, and fellow chocolatiers\, I continually explore and enjoy the culture of chocolate. \nSpace is limited. Please reserve a seat at the table. \nMore information about me and chocolate can be found on my website: David Upchurch Chocolatier https://www.duchocolatier.com/

With our resident French chef instructor\, Zoé McLaughlin\, we’ll celebrate timeless dishes and traditional techniques. \nYou’ll begin with a warm goat cheese salad\, focusing on balance and contrast—crisp greens\, creamy cheese\, and a bright\, well-seasoned vinaigrette. Next\, you’ll prepare steak tartare au couteau\, learning the traditional French method of hand-chopping beef with a knife rather than grinding\, which creates superior texture and allows precise control over seasoning. Classic French fries round out the savory course\, with attention to proper frying technique for a crisp\, golden finish. The class concludes with crème brûlée\, where you’ll master silky custard and achieve the signature crack of caramelized sugar. \nThis class is perfect for cooks who want to experience the cozy elegance of a French bistro while learning techniques that define the cuisine. Let’s cook together! \nMENU \nWarm Goat Cheese Salad \nSteak Tartare au Couteau \nFrench Fries \nCrème Brûlée

SUMMARY:Gray Area Grand Theater: Ruaridh Law 'Triadic Paths' solo exhibition
DESCRIPTION:For version 3.0 of the Algorithmic Art Assembly\, Gray Area is pleased to host a solo exhibition of work by Scottish-born artist Ruaridh Law\, curated by Thorsten Sideboard. \nTriadic Paths is a collection of three works Law’s oeuvre\, each tripartite in some way. Having previously exhibited outdoors\, in clubs\, in group gallery shows and more unusual locations\, this marks the first time that a collection of his works have been brought together inside. Each has a deep connection to memory\, the psyche and the intangibility of thought. \nI Like To Remember Things My Own Way was originally conceived as a live performance piece\, looping clips from David Lynch’s Lost Highway over and over again until they degrade and corrupt. This then evolved into a narrative film (screened here) for Repeater Books in 2022\, with the voice of Luke Hansbury charting a spiral of lost memory and decaying cognition – an abstract horror\, with neurological failure as the villain\, split into three sections. \nBare Windows\, Many Shades has previously been exhibited in clubs as well as gallery spaces. Three tripod mounted screens display heavily processed footage of clubs that had a profound impact on the artist. Locking the viewer in via headphones and small screen\, the nostalgia and often inaccurate memories become shared\, with hazy\, reverb-drenched reimaginings of the music filling the ears. \nAnd lastly 44: A Tarot For Sietse Van Erve presents a custom made tarot deck and control interface to explore the image\, sound and narrative in the cards. Having been performed outside in the Forest Of Galloway as a participatory piece\, and used in several performances as a live instrument\, this iteration brings it into the gallery space as a standalone installation\, allowing the participants to deal their own cards and create audio and visual stimulus over the three cards.
