SUMMARY:111 Minna Gallery: The Bat Show 3.0
DESCRIPTION:Winston Smith’s Studio Fallout partners once again with the legendary record label Alternative Tentacles to present The Bat Show 3.0\, a special holiday edition featuring a retrospective of Smith’s original “bat” icon alongside more than 45 new artist interpretations. This year\, Studio Fallout and Alternative Tentacles join forces with 111 Minna Gallery to showcase the exhibition in their iconic downtown San Francisco space. \nThe Bat Show 3.0 will take place December 19th from 5–10 pm at 111 Minna Gallery for a one-night-only pop-up party. The show highlights rare works from the Alternative Tentacles permanent collection as well as brand-new pieces curated specifically for this event\, celebrating San Francisco’s rich history of counterculture and two of its most influential voices: Winston Smith and Alternative Tentacles. \nReflecting on the origins of the iconic bat\, Smith shared: “It was based on a chicken-scratch rendering that Biafra suggested to me over 40 years ago\, and on cartoons I used to pass around the classroom when I was 9 or 10.” He adds\, “It’s been very gratifying to see the totally cool re-interpretations of my basic bat design by artists and fans over the last 45 years.” \nExclusive event merchandise from Studio Fallout and Alternative Tentacles will be available during the show. \n***For those unable to make the December 19th event: 111 Minna Gallery will be open the following day\, Saturday December 20th from 12 – 5pm. SUMMARY:111 Minna Gallery: One Time Talker by Robert Hightower
DESCRIPTION:Robert Hightower’s breakout solo show\, where silence ends\, trauma speaks\, and the truth shows up raw\, honest\, and loud in paint. \nAfter nearly three years away from solo exhibitions\, Robert Hightower returns with his most personal body of work to date. One Time Talker is a visual reckoning—an exploration of silence\, survival\, and the emotional weight of what goes unsaid. These paintings are not just art objects; they are confessions. Each one traces back to moments where Robert learned to stay quiet\, often through force\, fear\, or the belief that speaking up came with consequences. \nThe title itself is rooted in truth. “One Time Talker” was the name of a wooden paddle used as discipline in his childhood\, a tool that made it clear: you only get told once. That legacy of silence lingers in the work\, but so does the resistance. This isn’t a tidy comeback. It’s raw\, unfiltered\, and urgent. For anyone who’s ever been told to hold it in\, this show is an invitation to let it out. This is what it looks like when silence finally breaks. \nThis is a two-part event: \n Part 1: Opening Night Celebration — September 19\, 5 PM to 11 PM\n An evening to experience the full collection\, connect\, and celebrate the launch of this deeply personal show.\n Part 2: Coffee Social\, Curated Tours by Robert Hightower — September 20\, 10AM to 6PM\n A more intimate opportunity to engage with Robert directly. Enjoy coffee\, take a private tour of the collection\, and join a Q&A session where Robert will discuss the work\, its meaning\, and the journey behind it.

SUMMARY:111 Minna Gallery: I Saw\, but I Did Not See | Winston Smith Solo Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:This is a make-up show following the postponement of Winston’s previous exhibition due to a sudden heart attack. Moved to 111 Minna Gallery. \n111 Minna Gallery and Studio Fallout Present“I Saw but I Did Not See” – A Solo Exhibition by Winston Smith \n111 Minna Gallery and Studio Fallout are proud to present I Saw but I Did Not See\, the first San Francisco solo exhibition by legendary collage artist Winston Smith since 2023. \nOriginally planned for North Beach\, the show has been reimagined as a pop-up exhibition at 111 Minna—an exciting one-night-only event where all artworks will be sold directly off the walls. \nThis is a make-up show following the postponement of Winston’s previous exhibition due to a sudden heart attack. Now recovered and creatively recharged\, Winston has returned to the blade with his signature urgency\, producing an entirely new body of work. \nI Saw but I Did Not See draws deeply from the chaos of current events\, showcasing a powerful mix of all-new pieces and classic works from the archives. Some are searing and prophetic; others lean toward the playful and reflective—but all are unmistakably Winston. \nFrom Renaissance to Dada\, Winston’s visual language invites viewers into a psychic journey through the absurd\, the unjust\, and the beautifully surreal. \nJoin us on Thursday\, August 21st at 111 Minna Gallery. The exhibition begins at 5 PM\, with Punk Rock Karaoke at 6 PM and goes until 10pm. 21+ \nThis is a rare opportunity to experience—and take home—original works by one of punk’s most iconic and enduring visual voices. \n“I’m looking forward to debuting this exhibition” says Winston Smith\, Creative Director at Studio Fallout. “We’ll be showcasing new originals as well as some of my favorite classic compositions from the past\, complimented by some whimsical\, thought-provoking pieces to soften the blow. Hope you can make the scene!”

His work focuses on his fascination with animal/machinery hybrids. He presents many unanswered questions about the relation between the two. Is this a not-so-distant future reality? A terrible road we should never go down? If the bees continue to disappear\, should we design a replacement to pick up where they left off? Do we fiddle with apex predators to try to find out what makes an efficient killing machine? Or do we accept our fate and stop toying with Mother Nature since that is what got us into trouble in the first place. He continues to play the mad scientist in a laboratory that should never really exist. To juxtapose these prophetic tragedies\, he has created a new series of creatures with a precious stone element to them\, based on the idea that all people should protect nature and its fauna in the same way they safeguard their most prized jewels\, because if they don’t…they might end up with the former. \nYou can follow Robert Bowen on instagram at: @bowenstuff Website: www.robertbowenart.com \nYou can follow The Bridge Studio Collective on instagram at: @bridgestudiocollective\nWebsite: www.bridgestudiocollective.com \nAbout 111 Minna Gallery\nOver its 30 years\, 111 Minna Gallery has been recognized as: Finalist in Best Art Gallery 2024\, Winner: Best Art Gallery (2019 & 2018/SF Weekly)\, Winner of the Small Business of the Year Award (2018/SF Chamber of Commerce)\, and Winner of the 2018 Small Business of The Year Award at The Ebbies. 111 Minna continues to be a mainstay for art and culture in the bay area. She has been a graffiti muralist and fine artist for over 20 years. She started writing “Lady Mags” over 30 years ago\, and never stopped. \nLady Mags has been a graffiti writer since the early 2000s\, gaining her chops in her home town of New York City. She really took off in 2006\, when she started painting track sides in Chicago and then all over the world. She exhibited her first fine art pieces in 2012 when AmandaLynn invited her to be part of a group show at Cassel Gallery in SF. Lady Mags then co-founded Alynn-Mags\, a two woman graffiti and street art crew. Together\, Amandalynn and Lady Mags have painted all over the world\, and been in magazines like Juxtapoz and Inked\, featured in local news stories and in documentaries and shown in fine art galleries around the globe. Painting art in the street and large scale fine art pieces are her passion. Over the last two decades\, Lady Mags has painted thousands of graffiti pieces in alleys\, tunnels\, trains\, walls and more. \nIn San Francisco\, Lady Mags has worked with 111 Minna Gallery\, Luna Rienne Gallery and 5 Olive Gallery. \nAbout HOME:\nLady Mags has lived and travelled all over the world. As a child\, she moved a lot; and as a young mother\, she has moved her children several times as well. She has had to make a HOME wherever she resided. Most recently after an immense spiritual experience\, she had come to realize that HOME is within. We make our own HOME inside us- wherever we go. This show represents the heart and hearth within us all. \nFor ‘HOME’\, Lady Mags will be collaborating with other artists of whom she has admired over the years. Artists that she feels bring a feeling of safety and HOME wherever they go. She wishes and hopes that all feel at HOME when experiencing her exhibition while viewing the pieces\, hand upholstered furniture and murals that come together to make this exhibition come together at 111 Minna Gallery. \nHOME brings together decades of fine art and street art into one comprehensive show. Lady Mags has designed furniture and textiles for the event\, while creating a series of fine art works of various scales to coincide with her installation works. \nFor this exhibition\, Lady Mags will be collaborating with a stellar group of local and world renowned street artists including: Apex – (@apexer)\, Ian Ross – (@ianrossart)\, Amandalynn – (@alynnpaint)\, Margaretta – (@gretta_g)\, MadC – (@mad_c1)\, Merlot – (@merlotism)\, Lady Henze – (@ladyhenze) and more. \nYou can follow Lady Mags on instagram @lady_mags\nWebsite: www.artbyladymags.com \nAbout 111 Minna Gallery\nOver its 30 years\, 111 Minna Gallery has been recognized as: Finalist in Best Art Gallery 2024\, Winner: Best Art Gallery (2019 & 2018/SF Weekly)\, Winner of the Small Business of the Year Award (2018/SF Chamber of Commerce)\, and Winner of the 2018 Small Business of The Year Award at The Ebbies. 111 Minna continues to be a mainstay for art and culture in the bay area.
