Today from Mission Local

Good afternoon! Here’s the latest:

The recent SFPD drug raid on Market and Van Ness was a social media hit, and yielded 40 arrests—but zero charges. Joe Eskenazi interviewed veteran cops and lawyers about the raid’s problems, and found out why the tough-on-crime DA’s office isn’t standing behind the police this time.

After cops shot at a gun-waving Outer Sunset man March 8, the SFPD said that the suspect, Dmitri Hochstatter, may have wounded himself. His attorney says Hochstatter, who is charged with five felonies, never discharged his gun.

Artist Alejandra Rubio was sixteen when the Mission Market building at 22nd and Mission burned, and she’s been drawing the image ever since. Now she’s collecting neighbors’ memories of the building to create a new print and art project. Participate here, and see the back story here.

More soon,

Sara
