Today from Mission Local

Good morning!

There are some parts of the gigantic November ballot that no one should have to look at alone. Joe Eskenazi dug into the 112-page legal text on SF’s Prop M for us, and explains this post-pandemic rewrite of the city’s tax structure. It’s good news for the fattest cats (think Salesforce) and thinnest cats (restaurants, bookstores, your local bike repair shop.) And as for the in-between catsโ€”well, are you going to be sad if PG&E has to pay more taxes?

For the back story on Prop M, see our reporting on what work-from-home did to the city’s tax revenuesโ€”and why all the city’s leaders decided something had to change.

In crime news, a man suspected of a stabbing on Broderick Street led police on a wild chase through the city, during which he purportedly โ€œattempted homicides with a vehicle,โ€ striking cars and pedestrians. At Dolores Park, after ramming a SFPD vehicle, he fled, climbed a tree in the Castro, and leaped from it.

More soon,

Sara
