Today from Mission Local

Good afternoon!

Power has shifted away from the Police Commission since Prop. E was passed, reports Eleni Balakrishnan. Technically, the commission exists to set policy, but Prop E. requires a lengthy process of “public input” before implementationโ€”and only the police chief can speed things up. See what new limits on oversight might mean for issues like “officer discretion” in turning off body cameras.

Top sponsors of last night’s gala for the SF Democratic Party, with its new majority of conservatives, included Y Combinator CEOย Garry โ€œDie Slow Motherfuckersโ€ Tanย and Ripple chairman Chris Larsen. Leaders of ย big-money groupsย likeย Together SF, Neighbors for a Better SF, and Grow SF mingled with tech executives, real-estate lobbyists, and politicos. Mayor London Breed got a standing ovation, and joked that the party should put up a sign:ย โ€œUnder new management.โ€

Battles between progressive and conservative Democrats continued over at the Bernal Heights Democratic Club, where Jackie Fielder won endorsement after a contentious revote. Newer, more conservative members said the revote was a power grab and illegal under the club’s bylaws.

More soon,
