Today from Mission Local

Supervisors grilled the assistant police chief yesterday over “systemic failures” and abuses of police overtime. Joe Rivano Barros reports that the SFPD’s $92 million request for more overtime prompted even staunch police ally Sup. Matt Dorsey to say, “We have to fix this.”

Read our 2024 back story on the audit showing that a small number of police officers got a disproportionate amount of overtime, while others called in sick to work private security jobs.

Supervisor Jackie Fielder, Mission Station Cpt. Lisa Johansen, and officials from five city agencies met with 150 frustrated neighbors last night about conditions around the 16th St. plaza. Johansen said CHP, BART police, the sheriff’s department and undercover agents were deployed, but acknowledged that problems persist.

More soon,

Sara
