Good morning!

The Christmas lights are already going up around the Mission, but politicians have been pushing the season—the election season— for a while now. Mayor Breed’s proposed ballot initiative for March 2024, setting policies for police surveillance technology and car chases, was questioned yesterday by supervisors.

The cops who sprayed Shotwell St. with bullets in 2022 weren’t called to testify in the trial of Jose Corvera. Stopped for riding a bike on the sidewalk, Corvera fired a fake gun at the officers and was charged with resisting arrest. His lawyer said the cops stopped him “for nothing but being brown.”

Too early or not, the end of the year is coming. If it matters to you to get independent reporting on the twists and turns of city politics, consider supporting Mission Local. Our reporters are out there every day talking to sources, breaking news, and following up on stories that deserve your attention. Please make your contribution to our end-of-year matching campaign.

Thanks, and more soon,

Sara
