Today from Mission Local

Good afternoon!

At 5PM today, SFUSD’s superintendent is supposed to release a list of schools that “meet the critieria” for merger or closure—but, this being the SFUSD, expect delays. No final decisions will be announced until after the November election, but sources tell Joe Eskenazi that elementary schools will dominate the preliminary list.

You can read what the candidates for D1 supervisor had to say about school closures. Almost all of them are parents, but only one remembered “the terrible teachers who didn’t care anymore, were burned out or couldn’t teach the material.”

There’s a lot going on in the Mission and around: Check out our complete events calendar. And we’ve got a round-up of this fall’s museum offerings, including shows at SFMOMA, the Asian Art Museum, and the Exploratorium. Don’t miss the beautiful Robert Bechtle paintings and drawings at the DeYoung!

More soon,

Sara
