Today from Mission Local

Good afternoon!

If you, like Joe Eskenazi, have kids in public schools, you’re probably steamed about the district’s delay in announcing its list of school closures and mergers. Joe tears into SFUSD’s lack of economic rationale, methodology, support from state overseers, or clear process for the closuresโ€”and warns of the “inevitable political blowback” coming from the mess.

Why would someone choose to sleep on the street instead of in a city shelter?Unsafe,” “Too crowded,” and “Like being in jail” are how some tent-dwellers described shelters to Mission Local when we covered last month’s sweeps. Now Abigail Neely visits three shelters to see what life is really like inside.

As of this morning, a mind-boggling $37.3 million has been raised for the November elections. The two biggest chunks of that? Daniel Lurie‘s largely self-financed mayoral bid, and TogetherSF‘s spending on Prop D. Follow the Money has all the details on new contributors, unlikely allies, and grudge money.

More soon,

Sara
