Good morning!

At a Neighborhood and Public Safety committee meeting yesterday, supes heard the SFPD promise to improve lactaction rooms for its breastfeeding employees; speakers said the issue reflected larger problems that make policing less attractive for women. Around 15 percent of the city’s sworn officers are women, and Deputy Chief Peter Walsh said the department aims to double that by 2030.

A group of medical professionals and treatment providers came out against Prop F, the March initiative that would screen cash assistance recipients for drug use, and require users to enter treatment or lose benefits. They said the city had “no idea” of the measure’s cost or effectiveness, and decried “punishment” as a path to treatment.

Some good news on the housing front: 70 affordable senior units are coming to the former Big Lots space on Mission Street near Virgina. The developer, the nonprofit Bernal Heights Housing Corporation, is also working on affordable housing across the street, where a fire destroyed the 3300 Club in 2016.

More soon,
