Good afternoon!
We’ve got a lot of election stories today—brace yourself, there will only be more over the next 52 days.
But first, there’s breaking news to cover—like this account of SFPD officers shooting a purportedly armed man at the Powell Street BART station this morning.
Back on the campaign trail, opponents charged Mark Farrell with violating campaign finance law in his latest mailer ostensibly urging voters to support Prop. D. The flip side has nothing about Prop. D, though—just a photo of Farrell standing in front of City Hall, touting his success against drug dealers and encampments when he was interim mayor in 2018. Farrell’s been accused of using the uncapped donations flowing into his Prop. D committee as a stalking horse to subsidize his mayoral run.
Another week, another few million bucks. Follow the money with Kelly Waldron as she examines the reports on Farrell’s funding, Grow SF’s spending, and Daniel Lurie’s drop of $1.25 million more into his own campaign.
In See how they run, we follow Aaron Peskin to the “zoning panic zone” at a Noe Valley meeting of the NIMBY-esque Neighbors United. H.R. Smith reports on Peskin’s navigation of a tricky political balancing act, his support from Sup. Rafael Mandelman, and his display of “wonkery” to a tough crowd.
More soon,
Sara
