Today from Mission Local

Good afternoon! Here’s the latest:

A retired judge has submitted a lengthy appeal to the State Bar, saying that District Attorney Brooke Jenkins should face a more serious penalty for ethics violations. Joe Eskenazi reports on the appeal’s claim of “new evidence” that Jenkins “lied to the State Bar.”

Mayor Daniel Lurie has reorganized street teams dealing with drugs and homelessness, but today he called for more data on the outcomes for housing and treatment once people are contacted by the teams.

Back story: Yesterday, D9 Supervisor Jackie Fielder asked for the data to show whether the crackdown on drugs and homelessness is workingโ€”or if it’s just moving people from one neighborhood to another.

Meanwhile, on 16th Street, where drug problems have exploded since a crackdown in SOMA, the owners of the troubled Kalish Hotel say they want to sell their SRO to the city.

And a controversial Mission development on the site of a lethal 2015 fire has been approved by the Planning Commission. The new 10-story building will be 90% market-rate units.

More soon,

Sara
