Today from Mission Local

Good afternoon!

You’ve read Mission Local’s frank and fascinating exit interviews with outgoing SF officials. Now read the first of our intro interviews, with incoming D11 Supervisor Chyanne Chen.

Great story by Junyao Yang on Prop F, which passed last March and mandates drug screening and treatment for welfare recipients. Turns out the city awarded the $1.6 million contract to administer the program to a nonprofit whose founders sit on the Prop F steering committeeโ€”meaning they helped decide how to implement the measure, and will oversee their own performance.

There’s a lot going on here. For some back story, see why medical professionals and treatment providers opposed Prop F, and why SEIU has filed an “unfair practice” charge against the city over it.

More soon,

Sara
