Good afternoon! Here’s the latest:

SFPD officers in riot gear arrested more than 150 people last night following a downtown protest against ICE detentions. Mayor Daniel Lurie defended the police,ย writing that โ€œviolent and destructive behaviorโ€ led to the arrests. Stay tuned for updates.

For 91 days now, Mission Local’s been covering the crackdown around 16th and Mission, and Joe Eskenazi explains that, without a shift in plans, change in the area is unlikely. Read why cops don’t want foot patrols.

Lydia Chรกvez reports that DPW crews were out in force this morning, as a homeless resident who sleeps at the plaza swept up debris.

Over on 6th Streetโ€”another target of the crackdown on drugsโ€”the city is closing its triage center after four months, claiming success. Eleni Balakrishnan visits at night, and talks with neighbors who say they see little improvement.

More soon,

Sara
