Today from Mission Local

Good afternoon!

Well, Kamala Harris isn’t the only aspiring “brat” pol trying to cultivate young voters via social media. Abigail Van Neely takes you through the sometimes cringey attempts at Instagram meme-dom by mayoral hopefuls Aaron Peskin, Mark Farrell, Daniel Lurie, and London Breed.

Over in D5, the most recent finance filings show that supervisorial candidate Scotty Jacobs reports spending enthusiastically โ€”over $13,000โ€”on boat parties, rooftop parties, party buses, Uber and Lyft rides, and restaurants. His opponent, incumbent Dean Preston, reported spending $217.25 on a karaoke event.

The heated supervisorial contest in D1 is getting hotterโ€”and more expensive. Connie Chan, the progressive incumbent, is facing moderate Marjan Philhour, who lost to Chan in 2020 by only 125 votes. Junyao Yang looks at the impact of money and redistricting on this very close race.

Keep checking back with Mission Local! We just launched an election blog to update voters on the small twists and turns of the campaign trail as we head into the home stretch.
