Good afternoon! Here’s the latest:

Hundreds of thousands of San Franciscans ride Muni every day–so why is the system on the brink of collapse? Joe Eskenazi explains the politics behind Muni’s lack of funding, and what’s at risk for the whole city if Muni fails.

The controversial high-tech surveillance cameras intended to deter sex work on Shotwell St. probably recorded the protest yesterday, when a coalition of women’s groups demanded the cameras’ removal. Members questioned the lack of transparency about how surveillance data is used.

OK, it is time to make tamales! First step: Get your masa. Then watch our beautiful video and follow along as Simona Padilla explains how to make the seasonal classic. Ojo: Don’t open the steamer too soon!

Generous donors just gave Mission Local $70,000 more in matching funds—so every dollar you give by the end of the year will be doubled! Special thanks to loyal readers Jakob Soltau, Benjamin Ebert, and Bonnie Shwartz.

More soon,

Sara
