Today from Mission Local

Good afternoon! Here’s the latest:

Xueer Lu and Joe Eskenazi sat down with Mayor Daniel Lurie to ask him about the area around 16th and Mission and his campaign to crack down on drug sales. See how the mayor explains his plan to “clear the streets” of people using fentanyl, despite the city’s shortage of treatment beds and clinicians.

Speaking of 16th and Mission, there are two new trash cans on nearby Caledonia Streetโ€”though it’s not clear who put them there. And plaza food vendor Solinda Parraga told Oscar Palma what she sees from her fruit cart.

And speaking of Mayor Lurie, do read H.R. Smith‘s important story on how Waymo got onto Market Street. As she reports, the mayorโ€™s welcome of driverless cars coincides with plans to cut several Muni lines that currently run along Market.

More soon,

Sara
