Today from Mission Local

Good afternoon! Here’s the latest:

Unsurprisingly, the crackdown around 16th and Mission seems to have pushed more illegal vending to 24th and Mission. Oscar Palma watches unpermitted vendors set up their wares “like clockwork” as soon as DPW workers and police are gone.

On Day 81 of Mission Local’s coverage of the crackdown, Lydia Chรกvez reflects on what’s changed, and talks with people in the communities around 16th Street.

Meanwhile, it’s budget time in San Francisco: Mayor Daniel Lurie unveiled his budget proposal today, preserving funding for public safety and street cleaning, and cutting other departments and nonprofit contracts to address a $782 million deficit. See the details.

Speaking of money, the city’s Refuse Rates Board has proposed a 28% price hike over the next three years for residential trash pickup. Yes, that’s down from the 32% increase Recology wanted. But still.

More soon,

Sara
