In the wake of Sunday’s scary police-chase crash, opponents of Prop E—which allows officers more leeway to initiate chases—say they warned of the dangers to bystanders and property. City officials didn’t comment, but tech founder Chris Larsen, who donated to help pass Prop E, said, “It’s the criminal crews that are responsible.”
The city’s arguments over crime and punishment are not quieting down, and DA Brooke Jenkins took to social media to name and attack judges who she charged “embolden criminals.” The issue? A man allegedly stole toilet paper and the judge sentenced him for petty theft—instead of the felony Jenkins wanted.
Mayor Daniel Lurie has appointed Medicaid expert Daniel Tsai to serve as head of the city’s Department of Public Health. As the former federal Medicaid chief, Tsai focused on strengthening care for mental health and substance use, and for homeless patients with medical and behavioral conditions.
