Good afternoon!
When the Eureka Valley branch of the SF public library closes at night, its staff are required to turn off the free Wi-Fi, following pressure from Supervisor Rafael Mandelman. Why? So homeless people won’t gather outside and use it. Compassion is clearly killing people.
If you missed Carnaval--how could anyone miss Carnaval?–see our recap of photos and interviews with performers and the die-hard neighborhood fans who gathered to watch the exuberant, hours-long parade.
For an analysis of the life and death of Banko Brown, and the larger issues at play in San Francisco, come listen to Joe Eskenazi lead Mission Local’s monthly discussion at Manny’s on Wednesday. Joe will be joined by Julia Arroyo, the co-executive director of the Young Womenโs Freedom Center, where Brown worked, and Lateefah Simon, an advocate for racial justice and a candidate for Congress. Tickets here; nobody turned away for lack of funds.
More soon,
Sara
