Today from Mission Local

Good afternoon!

Three asylum-seekers were arrested by ICE this morning after attending routine hearings. The judge doubted the mental capacity of one man, and gave him a continuance to re-appear in a few months. The man was arrested anyway outside the courtroom, as were two “terrified” and crying women. Great on-the-scene reporting from Margaret Kadifa and Frankie Solinsky Duryea.

Oh man, Joe Eskenazi‘s got more on the strange and terrible saga of Rodrigo Santos, “theย cityโ€™sย premier corrupt engineer, fraudster, and permit hustler,” who settled with the city for just $1.4 million. Read the sordid details, and study our maps to see where Santos and his buddies signed off on dangerous, “physics-defying” engineering.

Gustavo Hernandez visits critter camp, where science is very hands-on. Don’t look at the photos unless you’re ready to see a Burmese python slithering over a small child. (The child seems happy.)

Arts roundup: Jessica Blough profiles Christina Augello, who hosts the San Francisco Fringe Festival. Lydia Chรกvez has an updated roundup of new shows at city museums and galleries.

More soon,
