Good afternoon!
This year’s point-in-time count shows more homeless people in the city—but fewer living on the streets. Advocates say the yearly census is incomplete, and especially underrepresents families without housing. Of the 437 homeless families counted, 90% live in cars.
Budget cuts to the Department of Youth, Children and Families are threatening summer programs for kids, and local nonprofits who serve low-income families are scrambling for funds to stay open.
In election news, the Bernal Heights Democratic club failed to endorse a candidate for D9 supe; we review Q&As on housing from D3 candidates for supervisor; the D11 candidates finally talk about their picks for mayor, and D1 hopefuls explain how they get around the city. (Only one mentioned renting an e-cargo bike.)
More soon,
Sara
