Today from Mission Local

Good afternoon!

Things were hot last night at the big debate, where mayoral candidates Mark Farrell and London Breed grabbed most of the time by attacking each other. Charges ranged from the incorrect (Farrell citing “record-level crime” under Breed) to the vague-but-personal (Breed saying Farrell “is trying to take us backwards.”) Aaron Peskin, Daniel Lurie, and Ahsha Safaรญ chimed in with remarks about corruption โ€”a main point of contention for all the candidates.

Speaking of corruption, who’d want to go on record as opposed to fighting it? Well, GrowSF, TogetherSF, and the SF Democratic Party, when it comes to Peskin‘s Prop C, which calls for an independent Inspector General to investigate government and contractor fraud. H.R. Smith explains how the measure would work, and why some PACs hate it.

And speaking, once more, of money: Don’t miss Mission Local’s Joe Rivano Barros talking about money in San Francisco politics this Monday, September 23rd. The event is free and sponsored by the League of Women Voters. Reserve seats here.

The 24th St. BART station has finally installed those fancy fare gates, meant to curb fare evasion โ€“at a cost of $90 million systemwide. Some riders are not happy about waiting to get through the six-foot barriers. “I missed three goddamn trains in that time,” said one commuter. “It made me late for work.โ€ย

More soon,

Sara
