Good afternoon!

The Department of Elections just released its latest results; there are about 97,000 vote-by-mail ballots left to process, and 20,000 provisional ballots. Mission Local has updates, and we’ll keep you posted as races are decided.

Daniel Lurie will be the next mayor of San Francisco. He spoke briefly this morning about his plans for a “world-class administration,” but declined to say who he’d hire. Lurie also talked about public safety, and said he’d declare a “fentanyl state of emergency” on his first day as mayor.

Lurie’s new job, writes Joe Eskenazi, will require running the city in the shadow of Donald Trump, who “behaves less like a president serving the people than a warlord who must be appeased.” See what might be in store for Lurieโ€”and all of us.

Eleni Balakrishnan reported last week on aย Target security guard beating SF resident Shan Bowermanย with a baton. Now additional onlooker video reveals what precipitated that beating: The guard, holding a Taser to Bowermanโ€™s chest, forcibly took his money while he protested loudly.ย

Had enough politics this week? Check out our calendar of events. Tonight, for example, you could discover 100 celestial colors at a book signing with artists/mad scientists Tyler Thrasher and Terry Mudge at Paxton Gate.

More soon,

Sara
