Good afternoon!
La Fénix on Mission near 16th is bustling with tenants and ground-floor nonprofits—but to the drug dealers in front, tinted windows make the building seem vacant. Lydia Chávez asks if architectural tweaks could help street safety.
The city has contracted with Ahsing Solutions to provide crews for “community engagement” around 16th Street. They will work five to seven days a week, from 11:30AM until 8PM.
By the way, I don’t know about you, but I still heard plenty of fireworks last night. Our reporters have video from July 4, when cops and sheriff’s deputies used “less-lethal” rounds to clear a crowd of about 200 people setting off fireworks in the Mission. Apparently it wasn’t a lasting deterrent.
More soon,
Sara
