Today from Mission Local

Good afternoon!

The SFPD finally filed the required report on its plans for getting new military equipment. On its list: automatic and semi-automatic rifles, long-range acoustic devices for crowd control, and a robo-dog that can climb stairs and open doors. And yes, its name is Spot.

The long-abandoned building at Mission and 18th Street may stay that way for even longer. A plan to build sixty-three affordable condos for teachers has been put on hold due to insufficient funding.

For the back story on that vexed buildingโ€”a historic example of “Streamline Moderne” styleโ€”see what we wrote in 2017 about previous failed plans for development, with rounds of complaints, permit hassles, building inspections, violations, mismanagement, and abandonment.

We asked candidates for D5 supervisor if they support safe consumption sites. Only one said, “They have a steam shovel to dig themselves into drug use, and a spoon to dig themselves out.”

More soon,

Sara
