Good afternoon!
Sad news: the trailblazing muralist and educator Patricia Rodriguez has died at the age of 80. She was a co-founder, in 1972, of the Bay Area art collective Las Mujeres Muralistas, and a mentor to generations of artists and muralists.
San Francisco has settled with homeless plaintiffs for $2.8 million, after a years-long lawsuit alleged that S.F. workers failed to follow the city’s own rules against throwing away homeless people’s personal belongings.
Starting Oct. 1, the city will allow homeless families to stay in shelters for 90 days and receive unlimited 90-day extensions. The new policy was the result of negotiations with families, most of them new immigrants, and city officials.
See the back story on how the families organized with Faith in Action to stop their eviction from shelters.
The SFPD’s Taraval Station covers the most populous and largest geographic area in San Francisco—but sometimes has only 5 cops on duty. The area still has one of the lowest crime rates in the city.
