Today from Mission Local

Good afternoon! Here’s the latest:

A report from the city controller alleges that the SF Human Rights Commission and Office of Workforce Development improperly funneled grants to a nonprofit founded by disgraced contractor Dwayne Jones. The alleged gifts-for-contracts scheme continued even after Jones was charged with multiple felonies in corruption cases.

The city will pay $2.8 million to the parents of 28-year-old Markwhan Kitcher-Tucker, who hanged himself in a city jail while awaiting trial in 2021. The family charged jail authorities with “deliberate indifference” to their son’s serious medical and mental health needs.

Prop K, the hotly contested measure closing the Upper Great Highway to cars, is about to be implementedโ€”but its foes, including former D7 candidate Matt Boschetto, are still really, really mad. They held a rally today announcing their suit against the city and five supervisors, hoping to overturn the closure.

We’ve got a fascinating profile of Robert Moses, the influential choreographer and founder of the dance company KIN, who’s been working in the Mission for 30 years. Read about his new work, ‘The Kennings‘, which premieres March 14-16 at Z Space.ย

More soon,

Sara
