Good afternoon!
Nice work by Yujie Zhou, who reports that Mayor London Breed’s six-year gig as a star columnist for Sing Tao Daily, the city’s the largest Chinese newspaper, was cut back after Mission Local’s story on the ethics of giving a full-page spread in the news section to only one of the mayoral candidates. Breed’s column is now a third of that size, and identified clearly as opinion.
We asked D11 supervisorial candidates where they stood on the 2022 school board recalls, which were a polarizing moment in city politics. Only one said, “I wish we could have recalled them all.”
And really, if you haven’t been a regular reader of H.R. Smith‘s sharp, hilarious, insightful dispatches for See how they run as she follows Aaron Peskin, do yourself a favor and check them all out. Today: Peskin’s fashion fails, a primer on his history with business lobbyists, what it takes to get ballots to SRO tenants, and Mark Leno’s teeth. Pretty much every sentence is a gem.
More soon,
Sara
