Good afternoon!
Mayor London Breed withdrew from the May 20 TogetherSF mayoral debate, citing unease with the group’s ties to Mark Farrell’s campaign. Instead, she and rival Aaron Peskin will spend that evening talking together at Manny’s, with Mission Local’s Joe Eskenazi moderating. Tickets here.
In other election news, See how they run is following mayoral candidate Ahsha Safai this week. The supervisor went to IUOE Local 39’s training center in the Bayview to meet operating engineers and potential apprentices. One worker said, “A lot of candidates won’t even come talk to us.“
We asked the D9 candidates what they think about the planters that are proliferating on Mission sidewalks. Only one called them “a benign solution that prevents vigilantism.”
And tomorrow, beginning at 6p.m. in the Mission, SF cyclists will hold a “ride of silence”, in honor of cyclists killed on city streets.
More soon,
Sara
