Good afternoon! Here’s the latest:
On her way out, Mayor London Breed named Stephen Sherrill to replace Catherine Stefani as D2 supervisor. Sherrill is a protegé of former NYC mayor Michael Bloomberg, who put $1.5 million into Breed’s re-election bid—but how much does the new YIMBY supe know about D2? Joe Eskenazi explains what’s going on.
Breed, on her way out, also tried to appoint a few last commissioners to the Board of Appeals, the SFMTA board, and the Police Commission. In a final show of power against the mayor, the Board of Supervisors shot down her nominations.
On her way in, meanwhile, D9 Supervisor-elect Jackie Fielder announced her City Hall staff: two veteran legislative aides from Hillary Ronen‘s office, and two newcomers who worked on Fielder’s campaign. Oscar Palma has the details.
But hey: Right now it’s time for New Mexico-style, bite-sized chiles rellenos! See this video on how to make them, and a great essay by Lydia Chavez on the perils of not paying attention to family recipes.
Thank you so much to John Barbuto, Dian Blomquist, and everyone who’s made a gift to Mission Local’s end-of-year campaign. Please join them and donate today!
More soon,

We are so close to our goal! Mission Local has new matching funds, and we’re aiming to raise $310,000 by December 31.
Help us cross the finish line!
