Today from Mission Local

Good afternoon!

As you won’t be surprised to hear, Aaron Peskin is running for mayor. The Board President tells Joe Eskenazi that “Recovery has been life-changing for me. And, I don’t mean this to sound corny, but I have a notion that we are a city in need of recovery.”

Over a hundred mostly Spanish-speaking parents packed Mission High to tell the school district of their opposition to closures and mergers.”If they need to cut, cut the central office first,” said one. “Too many people working there; we need more people working in the classroom.”

Longtime Mission landlord Vera Cort has died at 82. The “old-school” building owner was involved in the renovation of Cine Latino and of the artists’ space at 1890 Bryant. “She stood by her people, workers, and family,” said one tenant.

More soon,

Sara
