SUMMARY:Paxton Gate: Herpetology Happy Hour 2026: Sips & Slithers
DESCRIPTION:We’re teaming up again with our neighbors at Mission Science Workshop for an evening on the patio with drinks in hand and reptiles within reach. Whether you’ve always wanted to get closer to a snake or you’re still working up to it\, this is a good excuse to try. Our patio will be set up with live animal stations where you can meet some of the scaled locals up close.\nWe’ll have drinks covered too. The classic Margarita is back\, along with a new non-alcoholic aqua fresca for those keeping it cold-blooded in a different way. Not ready to handle a snake? Swing by the Bone Puzzle Challenge\, piece together a skeleton\, and earn a prize from the MSW team for completing it. \nBest of all\, it’s completely free to attend. Donations to Mission Science Workshop are enthusiastically encouraged when getting a photo with our reptilian friends and Paxton Gate will be matching every dollar given during the event. MSW is a vital community pillar\, providing hands-on science enrichment to over 12\,000 students across San Francisco. Come for the snakes\, stay for the science\, and help fuel the next generation of Bay Area tinkerers and explorers. \nNo registration required \nAll ages welcome\nRSVP https://dothebay.com/events/2026/5/8/herpetology-happy-hour-sips-slithers-tickets

SUMMARY:Gray Area Grand Theater: Good Modeling Picture!! Curated by Molly Soda
DESCRIPTION:Gray Area presents a special night of artist-made films\, selected by internet artist performer Molly Soda. Soda will be present to introduce the films\, and afterwards will participate in a Q&A moderated by Gray Area Associate Curator Wade Wallerstein. \nBringing together a diverse group of artists\, Good Modeling Picture!! offers a variety of perspectives on digital culture over the last 25 years. More specifically\, the selected films explore fame and fandom\, self and other\, and the power dynamics of perception in screen-mediated spaces. Livestream gifting culture\, online encounters with strangers\, and digital photography from Y2K-era party circuits are just a few of the techno-social phenomena through which these films offer insight into modern identity formation and self-perception.

SUMMARY:Manny’s: Strong Floor\, No Ceiling: Building a New Foundation for the American Dream
DESCRIPTION:Join Author Oliver Libby in this rousing discussion on the short\, hopeful slogan to rebrand the Democratic Party and help us win in 2026! \nStrong Floor\, No Ceiling is a bestselling political manifesto that lays out a “radically moderate” blueprint for restoring the American Dream. The book proposes that every American deserves a strong floor—built on access to education\, healthcare\, housing\, jobs\, capital\, and justice—while insisting there should be no ceiling on success for those who work hard\, pay taxes\, and play by the rules. Across more than 50 policy proposals spanning healthcare\, the economy\, immigration\, national security\, science\, and more\, Author Oliver Libby makes the case for a unifying vision that speaks to the frustrated majority of Americans who feel caught between the extremes. \nThe book’s message has caught fire in Democratic politics\, as well as among centrists and independents\, and media across the country. The “Strong Floor\, No Ceiling” slogan is now being used by House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries\, Senator Chris Coons\, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand\, Rep. Mike Levin\, Rep. Eugene Vindman\, Gov. JB Pritzker\, and many others. Recent battleground polling across a dozen states shows large majorities of voters support the framework\, and voters are significantly more likely to support candidates who embrace this message. \nJoin us for this exciting evening to hear from Libby on the rising influence of this slogan and the power it has on the future of the Democratic Party. And purchase your copy in advance here through Eventbrite and get it signed day-of by Libby himself!

SUMMARY:Manny’s: Meet and Greet with Lieutenant Governor Candidate: Mayor Janelle Kellman
DESCRIPTION:Swing by\, grab a drink\, and chat with this exciting candidate for Lieutenant Governor of California! \nAs we approach the June primary\, learn about the leading Lieutenant Governor candidates by coming to Manny’s! We are hosting a series of town halls with three candidates\, as well as this fun meet and grant with Mayor Janelle Kellman. Come by and learn who might serve as the second-highest ranking elected official in California\, holding significant power over education\, housing\, and economic policy. \nNext up is former Sausalito Mayor Janelle Kellman\, focused on reducing energy costs\, preventing wildfires\, and making community college free. \n_________________________________ \nJanelle Kellman is a nationally recognized leader at the intersection of climate risk\, policy innovation\, and community resilience\, with extensive hands-on experience in local land use planning\, permitting\, and policy. A former Planning Commissioner\, Councilmember\, and Mayor in Sausalito\, California (2020–2024)\, lawyer\, and small business owner\, she brings deep expertise in addressing the escalating threats of extreme weather and climate-driven disasters at the community level. She is known for a collaborative\, cross-sector approach to complex challenges spanning housing\, economic development\, and environmental protection\, and for her ability to govern through crises. \nHer agenda is focused and practical – three pillars that connect directly to the cost of living and public safety: \n Make the reduction of electricity bills a priority – one place to start is by taking expensive wildfire safety upgrades out of the utility profit model\, financing the work with low-cost bonds\, bidding it competitively\, and passing savings back to households.\n Prevent wildfires and reduce disaster costs – so we stop paying more and more every year for emergencies\, cleanup\, and chaos (and so insurance can stabilize).\n Make community college free – to build the workforce\, raise wages\, and expand opportunity without debt. \nJanelle brings an unusual combination of practical experience\, policy depth\, and real-world leadership. She is the only candidate in her race who has worked at the intersection of climate\, land use\, public safety\, economic development\, and affordability – all issues that are deeply important to California’s future and highly relevant to the Lieutenant Governor’s role.

SUMMARY:Gray Area Grand Theater: Breadboarding Modular Synthesizers Workshop
DESCRIPTION:In this hands-on DIY Breadboarding Modular Synthesizers Workshop\, you’ll learn how to design your own modular synthesizer from scratch. Using basic electronic oscillators\, integrated circuits\, and discrete components\, you’ll explore the fundamental principles of sound synthesis. We’ll create and arrange melodic and rhythmic patterns\, building musical sounds from the ground up. \nOver the course of two days\, we will focus on two circuit typologies: square wave oscillators for synthesizing pitched instruments and sine wave oscillators for emulating percussive sounds. After learning how to build these circuits out on breadboards\, we’ll explore two ways of interacting with our circuits – one a button-based system for actuating sounds\, and another an automated circuit for sequencing them. \nBy the end of the workshop\, you will have built your own unique\, playable instrument capable of generating synth melodies and sequencing drum patterns in real-time.
