Subtle yet complex in its simplicity\, monks in Japanese temples spend plenty of time mindfully preparing these recipes. Vegan and without overpowering flavors such as garlic or onion\, a meal in a Japanese temple usually consists of soup\, a side\, and rice. DESCRIPTION:In anticipation of the upcoming OPPENHEIMER\, we propose Christopher Nolan’s first certifiable mind-twisting crowdpleaser\, wherein Guy Pearce stars as a man who suffers from anterograde amnesia and is searching for the men who attacked him and raped and killed his wife\, Catherine. The film’s non-linear narrative is presented as two different sequences of scenes interspersed during the film as it follows Leonard Shelby\, who employs an elaborate system of Polaroid photographs\, handwritten notes\, and tattoos to track information he won’t remember. \nAlso starring Carrie-Anne Moss\, Jorja Fox\, and Joe Pantoliano\, this neo-noir mystery psychological thriller is Christopher Nolan’s second feature film and breakthrough that catapulted the writer and director to Hollywood blockbusters with complex storytelling. The United States Library of Congress deemed MEMENTO “culturally\, historically\, or aesthetically significant” and selected it for preservation in the National Film Registry in 2017. \nThis screening of Memento is co-presented by McEvoy Foundation for the Arts\, in conjunction with their exhibition What are words worth?. He has worked in the theater and in film/video as an actor\, director\, playwright\, producer\, and designer. He helped create and manage two landmark performance venues: Valencia Rose Cabaret in the 1980s and Josie’s Cabaret & Juice Joint in the 1990s.More recent work includes plays at the Eugene O’Neill National Historic Park Theater in Danville\, CA. He has written and has had produced several full length\, one-act\, and solo performance pieces.He is also a fine arts painter\, and has had his work featured in galleries and museums\, including the de Young in SF. \nPatrick Barresi (Randall) is a local public health educator and housing advocate who moonlights as an actor. It’s been a few moons since he last appeared on a local stage.  Favorite SF/Bay Area credits include Standing on Ceremony and Laramie Project: Ten Years Later at New Conservatory Theatre; and Private Fears In Public Places at Ross Valley Players.  Collaborating with long-term friends Dirk Alphin and Dennis Hasty in Reciprocating Pumps is a pleasure.  \nSpencer Jorgensen (Dennis) is originally from Texas\, but now resides in San Francisco. A student of theater\, he has stepped into acting after working behind the scenes for the better part of his career. Having stage managed and production managed several plays in college at Dartmouth and at his time at ACT as a Fellow\, Spencer now works in technology but has his heart in the arts. \nDennis Hasty (Zack) trained at the prestigious Jean Shelton Acting School\, and did summer workshops with the legendary Stella Adler. Carried the lead role in “Birdbath” \, “The Day the Whores Came Out to Play Tennis” and Beth Henley’s “Am I Blue”\, as well as supporting roles in two works by Terrence McNally “P.S. Your Cat is Dead” and “Bringing It All Back Home”\, and Joe Orton’s “Loot”. As part of The San Jose Theater Guild\, he performed in the musicals “The Apple Tree”\, and David Shire’s “Starting Here\, Starting Now”. Studied improvisation with Skip Blass and Debbie Durst\, and performed with the improv group Leftover Spaghetti. A former competitive gymnast and Chippendale’s dancer\, Dennis was last seen locally at The Curran Theater in “The Real Live Brady Bunch”\, as well as his recurring role of Spiderman at several children’s birthday parties. \nDenise Tyrrell (Norma) re-entered the theatrical world after a public affairs and executive career spanning thirty+ years. Local credits include Will Eno’s The Realistic Jones by Too Soon Old Productions\, Macbeth at Salesforce Park by Rhinoceros Theatre\, Part of Me at the Phoenix Theatre\, Edward Albee’s Occupant at the Embarcadero also by Too Soon Old Productions and Caryl Churchill’s Here We go for Anton’s Well Theatre Company in Berkeley. Denise spent a year abroad at The Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London and has locally studied with Susan-Jane Harrison and Jonathon Moscone at the Berkeley Rep. \nTimothy Flanagan (Charlie) was an active player in local theater throughout the 1980’s and ’90’s\, appearing in productions at San Francisco Shakespeare in the Park\, Shakespeare Santa Cruz and The Marin Shakespeare Company. He’s played major roles at The Magic Theater\, The Aurora Theater\, The Z Collective and Theater Rhinoceros where he played Max in their acclaimed production of ‘Bent’ by Martin Sherman. He toured to Washington D.C. in the midst of the AIDS crisis in ‘More Than Names’ a story of the making of the AIDS memorial quilt. He is thrilled to be returning to the stage for this staged reading of this remarkable new play.

NCLR is a national legal organization committed to advancing the civil and human rights of lesbian\, gay\, bisexual\, and transgender people and their families through litigation\, legislation\, policy\, and public education. \nPreviously\, Imani served as the Executive Director for Affinity Community Services. Affinity is a social justice organization that works with the entire LGBTQ community with a focus on Black women. She also served as the Director of the Broadway Youth Center\, part of Howard Brown Health in Chicago\, serving LGBTQ youth experiencing housing instability. \nImani is known for her visionary leadership. In 2021\, Imani was included in The Root 100 list\, recognizing her as one of the most influential Black leaders in the country. That same year\, Imani was also included in a resolution introduced by Congresswoman\, Barbara Lee honoring Black LGBTQ individuals throughout history. She was also recently awarded the Judith Butler Award by The Crown Family School of Social Work\, Policy and Practice (formally the School of Social Service Administration) for her exceptional promise in the field of social work. \nImani received a Master’s degree from the University of Chicago Crown Family School of Social Work and a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of California\, Santa Barbara. \nKara Swisher is the host of “On with Kara Swisher” and the former host of “Sway\,” the twice-weekly interview podcast about power by New York Times Opinion. She was a contributing Opinion writer at the New York Times since 2018 and writes a weekly newsletter. \nOver her career\, Ms. Swisher has hosted hundreds of newsmaking interviews\, going head-to-head with prominent figures including Elon Musk\, Mark Zuckerberg\, Rupert Murdoch\, Stacey Abrams\, Kim Kardashian and President Barack Obama. Her early and no-holds-barred coverage of the technology industry earned her a reputation as “Silicon Valley’s most feared and well-liked journalist.” \nMs. Swisher studied at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service\, where she wrote her first technology story for the school paper (it was in 1980 — and the technology was pay phones). She subsequently received a graduate degree from Columbia University’s School of Journalism\, became an editor at The City Paper in Washington\, D.C.\, and interned at The Washington Post\, where she worked her way up to reporter and covered nascent digital companies like America Online (a.k.a. AOL). \nMs. Swisher moved to the San Francisco bureau of The Wall Street Journal in the 1990s as one of the first reporters on the internet beat and eventually began her popular “Boom Town” column. With her longtime collaborator Walt Mossberg\, she was a co-producer of the technology conference “D: All Things Digital\,” where they interviewed major tech figures including Steve Jobs and Bill Gates. The duo later founded Recode\, which was sold to Vox in 2015. \nIn addition to her contributions to The Times\, Ms. Swisher is an editor-at-large at New York Media\, host of the “Pivot” podcast and executive producer of the Code Conference. She is the author of “aol.com: How Steve Case Beat Bill Gates\, Nailed the Netheads and Made Millions in the War for the Web\,” co-author of the sequel\, “There Must Be a Pony in Here Somewhere\,” and currently penning a memoir that will be released by Simon and Schuster in 2022. She has previously appeared and consulted on “Silicon Valley\,” a show by HBO\, which is now a part of WarnerMedia\, and also hosts a companion podcast for season three of HBO’s “Succession.” \nShe currently lives in Washington with her wife\, various cats and dogs\, and her three children.

SUMMARY:Manny’s: LGBTQIA+ Asylum Communities: A Private Documentary Screening and Panel
DESCRIPTION:jardines: While waiting in limbo\, displaced LGBTQ+ folks hoping to find asylum in the United States find support and healing with one another\, as they process the heartbreak and joy of a queer family on the move. \nSet in a one of the few LGBTQ+ shelters in Tijuana\, jardines is an intimate portrait documenting the life experiences and trajectories unique to displaced queer folks as they flee violence and persecution in their home countries. The film introduces us to people from all over the world as they deal with the uncertainty of a future in the United States at a time when laws around asylum and LGBTQ+ rights are under legal duress. It is in this limbo where the film happens\, sitting with residents of the shelter in their present\, as strangers become friends and family that might share together moments of joy and grief\, sorrow and hope. \nWe will be joined by the filmaker Alfredo Torres and Adam Chang from Oasis Legal Services to discuss the film afterwards. \nAbout Oasis Legal Services \nOasis Legal Services provides legal assistance with asylum\, residency\, naturalization\, VAWA\, and family petitions for LGBTQIA+ immigrant communities. We have over 35 years of combined professional experience in immigration legal services for the LGBTQIA+ community\, and since opening we’ve helped over 2\,000 LGBTQIA+ immigrants navigate immigration relief and benefits.
