SUMMARY:Drawing Room ANNEX: Future Tense exhibition (Opening reception)
DESCRIPTION:Exhibition Locale: The Drawing Room Annex\, 599 Valencia St.\, San Francisco \nExhibition Dates: October 12th – November 24th\, 2024 \nOpening Reception: Saturday\, October 12th\, 5-9pm \n599 Valencia Open Hours: Thurs-Sun 11-7 \nWith this show we are revisiting a theme that we addressed back in October 2020 at our very first Drawing Room Annex\, at the height of the COVID pandemic and in the midst of a very fraught presidential election. Now\, four years later\, we want to ask artists to respond to how they are feeling in this current moment\, in a time of yet another contentious and polarizing presidential election. This is against the backdrop of serious global conflict\, a rise in authoritarian regimes\, devastating climate change and the reversal of established civil rights. As you look ahead to the coming year\, what do you envision? Generational change? Hope? Despair? Progress? Peace? Conflict? (Dis)Empowerment? While the theme is broad\, artists must provide a narrative demonstrating how their work(s) fits with the theme.

SUMMARY:ODC Theater: AXIS Dance - Ecos
DESCRIPTION:AXIS Dance Company presents Ecos\, featuring a lineup of three world premieres with special guest artists Post:ballet. The evening features works from award-winning Spanish choreographer Jorge Crecis\, celebrated Bay Area artist Dazaun Soleyn\, and AXIS Artistic Director Nadia Adame. Across these diverse artistic perspectives\, Ecos unveils the many complex layers of the human experience to illuminate the core of what moves us forward. \nThe evening begins with Adame’s Piel de Luna\, which draws inspiration from the mystical energy of the moon – exploring how its gravitational pull not only affects the tides but also weaves invisible threads connecting the human spirit. Following is Soleyn’s Harmony of Souls\, a duet which blurs the boundaries between our individual and interconnected experience. The evening closes with Crecis’ epic Blueprints of Being\, a collaboration with Post:ballet in which each dancer represents both a real individual and an emblematic archetype\, inviting audiences to see parts of their own stories and identities echoed on stage. \nFounded in 1987\, AXIS Dance Company is one of the nation’s most acclaimed ensembles of disabled\, non-disabled and neurodiverse performers\, based in the Bay Area\, California. SUMMARY:Public Works: Fake & Gay & Public Works presents LSDXOXO (Live)
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, October 12th\, 7:30pm – 10pm \nLoft / 21+ / Limited Capacity \nIn addition to online presales\, tickets will also be available at the door night of. \nLSDXOXO BIO \nOriginally from Philadelphia\, RJ Glasgow broke through as LSDXOXO in New York City as part of the GHE20GOTH1K collective. Balancing uncompromising underground instincts with the impulse and pleasure of the dancefloor\, his DJ sets and productions quickly earned him acclaim across all kinds of scenes globally. From searing techno to Baltimore club\, downright sleazy ghetto house to razor-sharp electro\, his club credentials have always been wide-reaching and on-point\, but his star has truly risen for the way he folds broader pop and rap hooks into these sounds. While he’s still busy slaying dancefloors\, his increased focus on vocals on his Dedicated 2 Disrespect EP for XL Recordings has made LSDXOXO every inch the card-carrying superstar. \nThis duality in the LSDXOXO sound has led to high-profile co-signs\, including remixing Lady Gaga\, Pink Pantheress and Shygirl and producing five tracks for Kelela’s album Raven (Warp)\, not to mention collaborating with VTSS\, Eartheater and Tygapaw. Extending his rise as a songwriter\, his fully-fledged live show has now taken to the stage\, giving the fierce identity of his music huge audiences at festivals including Primavera\, Nuits Sonores and Rewire. \nOf course\, his dual life as a DJ still finds him constantly tearing up the rulebook with his genre-fluid style\, whether at the helm of his pleasure-loving Floorgasm parties in Berlin and London or manning his May 2023 residency on BBC Radio 1 in the UK. \nThe press are catching on to his relentless ascendance through features in BUTT (shot by fabled photographer Wolfgang Tillmans) and Document Journal (styled by Ludovic De Saint Sernin)\, as well as adorning the cover of DJ Mag’s April ’23 edition. \nNow the D.O.G. EP sets the scene for a hotly anticipated album in 2024\, but in the mean time there’s only going to be more sweat-slicked style coming through from one of the brightest talents to shine his light on deepest\, darkest night music.

Bringing together their cultural expertises\, their passion\, their senses of joy and justice\, Pedroso and Sidibe have created a unique performance built on storytelling and cultural collaboration. “Raices et Résistance” embodies the past as well as the present\, a story of Black people defining themselves through dance and music\, during and after the traumas of slavery and colonization. \nAfter independence from France\, Guinea elected socialist president Sekou Touré\, one of the African continent’s prominent independence leaders. Touré aligned closely with Cuba’s Fidel Castro\, and through this alliance came cultural exchange between the two countries. Artists were invited to festivals by the government’s of both countries\, and national music groups in Guinea\, like Bembeya Jazz\, created music with heavy Cuban influence.
AXIS is led by Artistic Director Nadia Adame and creates world-class productions that challenge perceptions and redefine dance and disability. Alongside our artistic programming\, the Company provides unparalleled integrated dance education and outreach programs that remove barriers and showcase the beauty of difference.

It explores the vibrant\, layered\, and largely unknown social-political relationship between Guinea\, West Africa and Cuba\, forged by the transatlantic slave trade as well as the post-colonial cultural exchange that began in the 60s. This story informs the collaboration between Duniya\, Arenas\, and Dance Mission in “Raíces et Résistance.” \nFree with your ticket\, you can catch a screening of the documentary short\, Cuba to Guinea\, before each show (Fridays at 6:45pm\, Saturdays 7pm\, Sundays 2pm). \nCuba to Guinea (film\, 2024)\n“Cuba to Guinea” is an immersive and poetic documentary short film\, following the research and creative process building up to the performance\, Raíces et Résistance. Travel with the artists to Cuba and Guinea\, as they uncover profound and polyrhythmic crossroads connecting their countries and cultural traditions.\nRun time: (28 minutes)\nDirector: Joanna Ruckman
