SUMMARY:Brava Theater: Swimming With Lesbians
DESCRIPTION:Brava Presents\nSwimming With Lesbians \nOctober 6 – 22\, 2023\nFri & Sat at 7:30pm\nSun at 5:00pm \nPREVIEW on Friday\, October 6 \nBrava proudly presents the West Coast Premiere of Marga Gomez’s fourteenth one person show\, Swimming With Lesbians. This full steam farce takes place aboard “The Celesbian\,” regarded as the most notorious cruise ship on the high seas. Throughout the performance Marga morphs into a boatload of hilarious queer characters including: Isabelle a disgraced Lacrosse player yearning for her first Lesbian affair\, Captain Debbie who is always ready to go down in the ship\, and the outwardly jovial but secretly meek bingo caller Pru Perez. Things veer off course when Captain Debbie orders Pru to conduct pool games on the Lezzo Deck. How these intrepid Lesbians navigate through danger\, lust and endless buffets is a seafaring tale that will never be told in Florida. Marga has been subliminally developing Swimming With Lesbians since the 1990’s when she worked as a cruise ship entertainer. \nWritten and Performed by Marga Gomez\nCreative Team: Edris Cooper-Anifowoshe (Black To The Future) Jackie Marchand (Power Rangers) Sarah Toby Moore (Atomic Comic) Monica Palacios (San Francisco Mi Amor) and David Schweizer (Latin Standards.)\nPhotos: Jim McCambridge\nGraphic Design: David Hawkins \nThe show runs 65 minutes with no intermission and is recommended for mature audiences. Full bar will be open for 21 and over.

SUMMARY:ODC Theater: ARS MINERVA - Olimpia Vendicata
DESCRIPTION:ARS MINERVA presents Olimpia Vendicata – A Modern World Premiere\nAn Opera composed by Domenico Freschi in 1682 \nThe Plot\nOlimpia Vendicata is Ariadne auf Naxos in a distinctly more 17th-century Italian key. Poor Olimpia\, a Princess of Holland\, is abandoned on a desert island by her faithless lover\, Bireno. Kidnapped by pirates\, she is made a slave at the elegant\, sensuous court of Hibernia\, where it seems everybody is amorous of somebody else. (Remember\, this is fiction.) Imagine her surprise when Bireno crops up and begins wooing the Hibernian princess Alinda! With finesse and malice\, Olimpia exacts poetic justice. \nCreative Team/Production Staff\nDirector: Céline Ricci\nConductor: Matthew Dirst\nCostumes: Marina Polakoff\nProjections: Entropy\nLights: Del Medoff\nMake up: Daniel Cartagena\nScore transcription: Adam Cockerham\nTranslation: Joe McClinton\nStage Manager: Chase Kupperberg \nCast\nOlimpia: Leslie Katter\nBireno: Nina Jones\nOberto: Deborah Rosengaus\nAlinda: Aura Veruni\nOsmiro: Sara Couden\nAraspe: Nicolas Garcia\nNiso: Sidney Ragland

SUMMARY:Public Works: DJ Boring presented by PW
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, October 21st\, 9pm – 3am \nMain Room / 21+ / Limited Capacity \nIn addition to online presales\, a limited amount of tickets will also be available at the door night of. \nLINEUP: \n➩ DJ Boring \n➩ AIDA \n➩ Farsight \n━━━━━━━━━▲━━━━━━━━━ \nDJ BORING BIO: \nWatching DJ BORING in action is the antithesis of his mundane pseudonym; vibrant\, energising\, fun and full of passion\, Tristan Hallis puts his all into every set. Over the last few years he has ascended rapidly thanks to his dazzling displays\, impeccable selection and high quality productions. The Australian selector takes great pride in his digging capabilities\, constantly searching for lesser-known gems from years gone by\, and pairing them up with more recent cuts that are equally exceptional. \nSince he arrived with ‘Winona’ in 2016\, DJ BORING has continued to push forward and demonstrate his abilities on stage\, in the clubs\, at festivals and behind-the-scenes in the studio. He has an innate ability to blend seemingly disparate styles. His debut on BBC Radio 1’s legendary Essential Mix and an amazing Boiler Room appearance at Lost Sundays exemplify this DJ style\, but tune in to any of his streams\, recorded sets or\, better still\, see him in person and you’re bound to be left buzzing by his sheer dynamism. \nIn the studio\, the producer has honed in on a contemporary sound that pays homage to the roots of dance music. His productions are birthed in hardware and imbued with Hallis’ energetic personality — a human touch which can often be lacking in many productions today. This trait shines through in his new live show where hardware and controllers become a natural extension of his creative self\, a conduit through which he presents a fresh take on his music. \nDJ BORING epitomises the dance floor roots of club culture; positive energy\, liberating and unifying selections and unbridled fun and self-expression\, combined with respect for the music and a genuine desire to share his unwavering passion. Despite his impressive list of achievements it’s clear BORING is only just getting started\, with his live show being finalised alongside plans for an album project in the not-too-distant future\, the stage is set for the next phase of this soaring artist’s remarkable career…

SUMMARY:The Chapel: Ramblin' Jack Elliott\, Nat Keefe and Erik Yates from Hot Buttered Rum
DESCRIPTION:$35 Advance and $40 Day of Show \nWebsite | Spotify | Instagram \nPlease Note: This is a partially seated show. First come\, first served. \nFor information on our current COVID policy\, please click here \nOne of the last true links to the great folk traditions of this country\, with over 40 albums under his belt\, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott is considered one of the country’s legendary foundations of folk music. Long before every kid in America wanted to play guitar – before Elvis\, Dylan\, the Beatles or Led Zeppelin – Ramblin’ Jack had picked it up and was passing it along. From Johnny Cash to Tom Waits\, Beck to Bonnie Raitt\, Ry Cooder to Bruce Springsteen\, the Grateful Dead to The Rolling Stones\, they all pay homage to Ramblin’ Jack Elliott. \nIn the tradition of roving troubadours Jack has carried the seeds and pollens of story and song for decades from one place to another\, from one generation to the next. They are timeless songs that outlast the musical trends of any given day. He wrote one of the first trucking songs-Cup of Coffee-recorded by Johnny Cash\, championed the works of new singer-songwriters such as Bob Dylan\, Kris Kristofferson and Tim Hardin; and became a founding member of Bob Dylan’s Rolling Thunder Revue. He continued the life of the traveling troubadour influencing Jerry Jeff Walker\, Guy Clark\, Tom Russell\, The Grateful Dead and countless others. \nRamblin’ Jack is a two-time GRAMMY winner\, National Medal Of Arts recipient\, and in 2016\, received a Folk Alliance Lifetime Achievement Award. Featured in the recent Rolling Thunder Revue film by Martin Scorcese and also in the early 2019 PBS release of the Woody Guthrie All Star Tribute Concert Center\, Ramblin’ Jack is an icon of American roots and folk music. A lover of storytelling and veteran troubadour style musician\, on tour he is in his element and known for telling the tales gathered along his magnificent journey through the roots of Folk\, Blues\, Americana and Cowboy music and poetry. His permanently enshrined seat at Woodie Guthrie Center Theater in Tulsa\, OK.\, sits among other greats\, including Lead Belly\, Cisco Houston and Pete Seeger. \n“Nobody I know—and I mean nobody—has covered more ground and made more friends and sung more songs than the fellow you’re about to meet right now. He’s got a song and a friend for every mile behind him. Say hello to my good buddy\, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott.” – Johnny Cash\, The Johnny Cash Television Show\, 1969.\nNAT KEEFE & ERIK YATES FROM HOT BUTTERED RUM: Nat Keefe and Erik Yates founded Hot Buttered Rum when they were fresh out of college\, on a two-week off-trail backpacking trip in the High Sierra. The journey they began there has taken them to some of the finest stages in the country\, including Telluride Bluegrass Festival\, Newport Folk Festival\, High Sierra Music Festival\, headlining the SF Fillmore five times\, and opening at the Greek Theater. Hot Buttered Rum is the Official Bluegrass Band of the SF Giants and they sing the National Anthem every year. Recently\, HBR traveled to Rwanda and Zambia as part of a State Department program to share American music and culture.

SUMMARY:The Chapel: Geese\, YHWH Nailgun
DESCRIPTION:$20 advance and $25 day of show \nFor information on our current COVID policy\, please click here. \nWebsite | Spotify | bandcamp | YouTube | Instagram \nGeese \nOn a practical level\, Geese are still the group we were introduced to in 2021: vocalist Cameron Winter\, guitarist Gus Green\, guitarist Foster Hudson\, bassist Dom DiGesu\, and drummer Max Bassin. But spiritually\, Geese have returned as an entirely different prospect. Their new album 3D Country is the sound of a restless\, adventurous band redefining themselves. \nAnyone who has seen Geese live recently might’ve noticed the band adopted a different vibe onstage — more of a volcanic\, unpredictable aesthetic. It turns out that wasn’t a flipside to the recordings of Projector\, but foreshadowing that there was more to the story. Knowing they were now beyond teenage basement experiments and were instead making something for an audience who would hear it\, Geese felt emboldened. “When we were writing Projector it was about narrowing the scope\, trying to do more with less\,” Green says. “When we started writing for 3D Country we were trying to do a lot more and seeing what worked and what didn’t.” \nWhile writing 3D Country\, Winter was preoccupied with “modern doom\,” the way climate change and all manner of looming catastrophes hang on the horizon while we otherwise go about our lives. “It’s about living in spite of just total ambient dread\,” he explains. “I wanted to adopt an irreverent\, sarcastic way of looking at that.” While Winter wanted to portray a generational experience\, he didn’t want to be overly literal or didactic about it. “At this point\, everybody I know is already so cynical and defeatist about the state of things\, it’s actually hilarious\,” he explains. “Younger people make jokes out of the fact that human extinction is on the horizon\, and that’s kind of beautiful. I tried to represent that attitude.” \nWith a heightened ambition fueling 3D Country\, the band created a bugged-out\, wild\, unpredictable ride — an almost phantasmagoric reflection of contemporary life. “It feels like going to the circus and instead of having a good time\, everyone is trying to kill you\,” Bassin says. \nAnd even if 3D Country is one more stop and not the final destination — Winter hints that what comes next could be just as severe a change — the album makes one thing very clear about Geese. This is not the band we thought they were\, and no one can say where they might take us next.
