DESCRIPTION:David Lynch’s labyrinthine Hollyweird freakout—his last feature to date—is his most uncompromising creation: a fugue-state trawl through the darkest realms of the subconscious that pushes his straight-from-the-id imagery and sinister dream logic to their extremes. When she accepts a role in a supposedly cursed production\, a movie actor on the verge of a comeback (Laura Dern\, in a fearless performance) finds herself tumbling down a series of increasingly disturbing rabbit holes (complete with literal rabbits) that lead her from the glittering heights of Tinseltown to the depths of human depravity. In his first feature shot on digital video\, Lynch makes visionary use of the medium’s smudged textures and murky chiaroscuro to enhance the hallucinatory\, nightmarish quality of what may be his magnum opus. \nScreening in conjunction with Alexandre O. Philippe’s documentary LYNCH/OZ\, The Wizard of Oz (35mm) and a number of Lynch’s most haunting films as part of this Summer’s You’re Not In Kansas Anymore series.

The exhibition is on view through August 19\, 2023. Gallery hours are Wednesday-Saturday\, 12-6PM\, or by appointment. \nJOHN OSGOOD (b. 1977) is a contemporary urban artist based in the San Francisco Bay Area. His work incorporates visual and stylistic elements of street art\, graffiti\, pop culture and cubism to depict the human condition. Osgood layers a combination of acrylic\, aerosol\, and oil paint on either canvas or wood panel to create his vibrant and textural paintings. This process-oriented approach mirrors the multifaceted nature of memory and the collective human experience. Osgood holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Washington State University with a minor in Fine Arts. He participates in exhibitions across the US and his murals can be found along the West Coast\, UK\, and Spain. \nSTEVE JAVIEL (b. Los Angeles\, CA\, 1981) is an urban impressionist painter based in the San Francisco Bay Area. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco\, CA\, and participates in exhibitions along the West Coast. \nVOSS GALLERY is a women-owned art gallery in San Francisco’s Mission District established in 2019 by Ashley L. Voss. The gallery features a dynamic exhibition program of solo and thematically organized group shows and socially-conscious projects to benefit the greater community. New exhibitions are presented every three to four weeks and are curated with an emphasis on New Contemporary work by emerging and mid-career artists.

After wandering through typical teenage jobs at pizza joints and ice cream parlors\, Mike’s first “restaurant” job was with Sambo’s Coffee Shops\, slinging hash and cooking eggs for the bar rush and Sunday breakfast crowds.  He moved on to help open several restaurants\, attend the California Culinary Academy\, and study under European chefs with Michelin backgrounds. Later\, Mike served as an executive chef for catering companies\, wineries and country clubs.  When his son was born\, Mike transitioned his career into teaching\, returning to the CCA where he eventually became the Executive Chef and Director of Academics. Mike also returned to school for training in his new field\, earning a Master’s Degree in Education. Having taught for Le Cordon Bleu North America in both online and brick and mortar schools\, Mike is thrilled to return to teaching in a neighborhood-based community.  When he is not teaching he reaps the benefits of his backyard garden\, kept in perfect order by his Master Gardener wife.

DESCRIPTION:Whether you’re already keeping bees or simply curious about what beekeeping involves\, there will be something for you in this class. We’ll cover the basics on bees\, the progress of bees through the seasons\, how to keep bees healthy\, and what to look for at this time of year. We’ll also talk about swarming\, pest management\, and more. \nThe class will also address special concerns of urban beekeeping. Are there city or county restrictions on beekeeping where you live? How can you be the best bee steward possible in an area where bees and people will inevitably meet? \nThe class is designed for beginners so no prerequisite knowledge is required. You will get to see live bees and will most likely be able to get into a bee suit and see the bees in a hive. \nFor your safety\, please wear long sleeves\, long pants\, and closed-toe shoes. \nInstructors: \nMarc Johnson and Pilar Leano completed GFE’s Get Up! (Gardening and Composting Educator Program) in 2010 and have volunteered at the garden ever since. They first put hives at GFE in early 2015 and manage about a dozen hives\, mostly in Western San Francisco. Marc is on the board of the SF Beekeepers Association and volunteers his time and energy to promote urban beekeeping. \nMark Carlson served in El Salvador in the Peace Corps from 2005 to 2007. During that time\, he kept bees as part of his community agriculture extension work. In 2019\, he graduated with the inaugural class of the California Master Beekeeper Program. He is the co-chair and “honey guru” for the Good Food Awards and has been a mead maker for many years. He has worked in the theater and in film/video as an actor\, director\, playwright\, producer\, and designer. He helped create and manage two landmark performance venues: Valencia Rose Cabaret in the 1980s and Josie’s Cabaret & Juice Joint in the 1990s.More recent work includes plays at the Eugene O’Neill National Historic Park Theater in Danville\, CA. He has written and has had produced several full length\, one-act\, and solo performance pieces.He is also a fine arts painter\, and has had his work featured in galleries and museums\, including the de Young in SF. \nPatrick Barresi (Randall) is a local public health educator and housing advocate who moonlights as an actor. It’s been a few moons since he last appeared on a local stage.  Favorite SF/Bay Area credits include Standing on Ceremony and Laramie Project: Ten Years Later at New Conservatory Theatre; and Private Fears In Public Places at Ross Valley Players.  Collaborating with long-term friends Dirk Alphin and Dennis Hasty in Reciprocating Pumps is a pleasure.  \nSpencer Jorgensen (Dennis) is originally from Texas\, but now resides in San Francisco. A student of theater\, he has stepped into acting after working behind the scenes for the better part of his career. Having stage managed and production managed several plays in college at Dartmouth and at his time at ACT as a Fellow\, Spencer now works in technology but has his heart in the arts. \nDennis Hasty (Zack) trained at the prestigious Jean Shelton Acting School\, and did summer workshops with the legendary Stella Adler. Carried the lead role in “Birdbath” \, “The Day the Whores Came Out to Play Tennis” and Beth Henley’s “Am I Blue”\, as well as supporting roles in two works by Terrence McNally “P.S. Your Cat is Dead” and “Bringing It All Back Home”\, and Joe Orton’s “Loot”. As part of The San Jose Theater Guild\, he performed in the musicals “The Apple Tree”\, and David Shire’s “Starting Here\, Starting Now”. Studied improvisation with Skip Blass and Debbie Durst\, and performed with the improv group Leftover Spaghetti. A former competitive gymnast and Chippendale’s dancer\, Dennis was last seen locally at The Curran Theater in “The Real Live Brady Bunch”\, as well as his recurring role of Spiderman at several children’s birthday parties. \nDenise Tyrrell (Norma) re-entered the theatrical world after a public affairs and executive career spanning thirty+ years. Local credits include Will Eno’s The Realistic Jones by Too Soon Old Productions\, Macbeth at Salesforce Park by Rhinoceros Theatre\, Part of Me at the Phoenix Theatre\, Edward Albee’s Occupant at the Embarcadero also by Too Soon Old Productions and Caryl Churchill’s Here We go for Anton’s Well Theatre Company in Berkeley. Denise spent a year abroad at The Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London and has locally studied with Susan-Jane Harrison and Jonathon Moscone at the Berkeley Rep. \nTimothy Flanagan (Charlie) was an active player in local theater throughout the 1980’s and ’90’s\, appearing in productions at San Francisco Shakespeare in the Park\, Shakespeare Santa Cruz and The Marin Shakespeare Company. He’s played major roles at The Magic Theater\, The Aurora Theater\, The Z Collective and Theater Rhinoceros where he played Max in their acclaimed production of ‘Bent’ by Martin Sherman. He toured to Washington D.C. in the midst of the AIDS crisis in ‘More Than Names’ a story of the making of the AIDS memorial quilt. He is thrilled to be returning to the stage for this staged reading of this remarkable new play.
