SUMMARY:Gray Area Grand Theater: Visible Cloaks: Paradessence
DESCRIPTION:Paradessence\, Visible Cloaks’ third full-length\, is a work of emergence and illusion. The album’s fourteen songs shift\, heave\, and shimmer against a faintly luminous backdrop of night\, a cavernous space shaped by sparse hyperreal representations of the natural world. The arrangements are simultaneously grandiose and fragile\, both an inversion and culmination of what came before and as adventurous as anything they’ve produced so far. \nOpening the evening is San Francisco Bay Area based composer and performer Madalyn Merkey\, whose recent work observes the principles of acoustic instruments and material spaces to design real-time soundsynthesis programs for site-specific performances.

DESCRIPTION:Written by P. Carl\nDirected by Lyam B. Gabel \nMay 28 – June 14\, 2026\nZ Space’s Steindler Stage \nFor 50 years\, P. Carl lived as a girl and then a queer woman\, building a career and a loving marriage while waiting to realize himself in full. Carl’s acclaimed story comes to life in its West Coast premiere at Z Space. \nGenerously funded in part by Battery Powered\, The Sheri and Les Biller Family Foundation\, The Sam Mazza Foundation\, and The Zellerbach Family Foundation.

SUMMARY:Garden for the Environment: Growing a Garden: Where to Start Workshops 2026
DESCRIPTION:Do you have a space that you would like to turn into a garden\, but don’t know where to start? This class is perfect for beginner gardeners or anyone looking for a refresher. We will guide you through the steps to transform your yard into a beautiful garden\, including maintenance tips and where to find support and resources. We will also include information and advice on container gardening. This workshop will focus on working with nature\, observing your space\, and demystifying San Francisco’s unique microclimate. With your newfound knowledge\, you’ll be able to create a manageable garden that aligns with the space you have. Bring your questions! \nPlease note that this workshop focuses on perennial plant gardening\, NOT edible food growing. If you are interested in learning about edible plant growing\, please register for one of our Grow Your Own Food 2026 workshops. \nOur expert instructor Carey Craddock is a garden coach\, consultant\, and horticultural enthusiast. She has been teaching at Garden for the Environment since 1998\, first as a Get Up! intern\, and then as a staff member until 2003. She trained in both CCSF and Merritt College’s landscape horticulture programs\, and loves to combine her passion for art and horticulture into creative projects. She runs Carey Craddock Gardens where she specializes in ecological garden design and growing food. \nNo walk-up registration permitted for this course.

SUMMARY:18 Reasons: Japanese Bento Making - Online
DESCRIPTION:Camila just returned from a trip to Japan and is ready to cook with you! This class is inspired by Camila’s love for the Japanese bento\, a meal packed in a box. What is the difference between bento and just any packed lunch? The extra care that goes into the preparation. Bento meals feature balance as their main attribute\, so they satisfy not only the body but also the eye and the soul. Balance is present in Japanese meals\, usually around the number 5: colors (and thus nutrients)\, preparation techniques\, and flavors. \nCamila has been traveling yearly to Japan since 2017\, introducing and guiding small groups of Americans to the culture through its cuisine and crafts. She has learned much of her culinary knowledge from Eiko-san\, a wise woman in her 70s from a humble Kyoto neighborhood\, and the neighborhood community of women who gather to celebrate each of Camila’s visits. \nJoin Chef Camila as she streams from her home kitchen in Barcelona. Registrants will have access to a high-quality class video to rewatch as many times as they wish! Click here to see a sample video of what to expect in class. \nMENU \nChicken Teriyaki (or Shrimp or Tofu) \nTamagoyaki – Rolled Omelet \nQuick Pickled Cucumbers \nMiso-Glazed Eggplant \nJapanese Rice

SUMMARY:Brava Theater: Rhodessa Jones returns to the Stage\, “Just Outside of Babylon\, There Is a Rude Paradise”
DESCRIPTION:Brava Presents\nA Theatrical Homecoming: Rhodessa Jones Returns to the Stage\, “Just Outside of Babylon\, There Is a Rude Paradise” \nJune 12-13\, 2026 \nJune 12\, 2026 : A Conversation with Rhodessa Jones and Joanna Haigood \nJune 13\, 2026: Rhodessa Jones Featuring The Medea Project\nFri-Sat @ 7pm\nBrava Mainstage \nLegendary San Francisco artist\, activist\, and storyteller Rhodessa Jones — creator and director of The MEDEA Project: Theatre for Incarcerated Women — returns to the stage this summer with “Just Outside of Babylon\, There Is a Rude Paradise: A Celebration of Love and a Love Letter to San Francisco.” The intimate\, two-night engagement will be performed Friday\, June 12\, and on Saturday\, June 13\, 2026\, featuring Rhodessa’s award-winning Medea Project: Theatre for Incarcerated Women/HIV Circle. Both shows will be at 7:00 PM at BRAVA Theater Center\, 2781 24th Street\, in the heart of the Mission District. \nPresented by Rhodessa Jones Productions with sponsorship and theatrical partnership from BRAVA! For Women in the Arts\, the evening is an offering of remembrance\, storytelling\, and a moment with one of the city’s most singular voices. For an artist whose life’s work has been devoted to lifting the stories of the unheard\, “Just Outside of Babylon” is both reflection and reckoning — a love letter to the San Francisco that shaped her\, and to the people\, places\, and movements that kept her making art inside jails\, on streets\, in living rooms\, and on the world’s great stages for nearly four decades. \nFor longtime followers of Rhodessa’s work\, this engagement marks an especially meaningful moment: it is expected to be her final press-promoted theatrical presentation for some time. Audiences are invited to attend a live interview with Johanna Haigood\, a well-known aerialist and choreographer in San Francisco\, California. \nThe Rhodessa Festival is funded by the San Francisco Arts Commission’s Legacy Artists Grant and Artist Impact Endowment\, the Zellerbach Family Fund\, the Fleishhacker Foundation and Brava! for Women in the Arts.

Walk and discuss how we get to a brighter future together.\nDear massively multi-disciplinary\, systemic change community in the SF Bay of people in the process of changing the world who happen to hike: I am pleased to say that we have found a time when we can convene for a hike. This hiking tradition began years ago when David Hodgson\, and I\, Bobby Fishkin\, started gathering multi-disciplinary collaborators for hikes. Do you have an inter-disciplinary interest addressing global challenges and in reaching a future fit for our future selves? Do you want to de-risk hypothetical ways to change the world in real time together? Do you think about how impact investing can scale? Are you an social innovator? Are you a solar punk? Are you a systems change leader? Are you a multidisciplinary agent of change? Come join our conversation while hiking.\nHiking is good at creating rhythms of thought\, pace of mind\, and a social cadence for collaborative creativity and improvisational thought. Its also essential to ensure your thinking is cumulative with other disciplines and patterns of understanding.\nSunday June 14th hike please meet at 3pm. Join us for our hike by meeting at the Legion of Honor steps. We will have a good hike. Please let us know if you will be joining so that we know to look out for you.

SUMMARY:Dance Mission Theater: Brown Thumbs: Exploring Punjabi x Mexican Land Solidarity
DESCRIPTION:Tickets: https://www.tixtree.com/e/brown-thumbs-exploring-punjabi-x-mexican-land-solidarity-bcedb4d40bac \nHamesha Project & Dilpreet Anand present an event event will be exploring the intertwined histories of Punjabi and Mexican immigrants in California. \nBrown Thumbs will be showcasing the ways that relationship to land manifests in the artistic and sociocultural identities of Punjabi and Mexican communities\, how this common ground has historically created solidarity between these cultures\, and how this looks today. Through a curated panel\, performances\, and a community art activation we seek to shed light on how and why our communities have come together in California\, and how we can honor these parallels by building collective power as a means to resist division and threats to safety in contemporary times. \nBrown Thumbs is a platform to share the overlapping histories of Punjabi and Mexican ancestors. Sharing these stories can inform our efforts to cultivate space for healing and amplify intersections that have been historically erased. In contemporary times we have found continued solidarity amongst these two communities as both have been severely impacted by ICE raids. Brown Thumbs is a call to action\, an effort to build on common ground through shared struggle\, and support for one another as our immigrant families face detention and deportation. Our event honors this continuum of solidarity by creating space for art and healing as we engage in this struggle together. Through celebrating land\, labors of love\, and cross-cultural connection\, Brown Thumbs honors the earth as a site of connection and resistance. Proceeds from this event will be split between covering event costs and towards mutual aid for families impacted by ICE.

SUMMARY:Manny’s: How Progressive and Populist Media is Shifting the Democratic Party
DESCRIPTION:Explore the impact of progressive media on the future of the Democratic Party with More Perfect Union and Inequality Media Civic Action! \nThe future of the Democratic Party is uncertain. Some\, like Bernie or Mamdani\, are pushing further left into populist messaging\, whereas others are making sure we don’t stray too far from the center. Join us for this evening with the leaders of two of the most influential progressive media groups in the nation right now. \nInequality Media Civic Action was founded in 2018 by former Secretary of Labor and famous economist Robert Reich. More Perfect Union was founded in 2021 by Bernie Sanders’s Campaign Manager Faiz Shakir and Communications Director Josh Miller-Lewis. Both have been instrumental in different ways towards expanding progressive and populist messaging ever since. So let’s explore together what the real-world impact has been of their organizations\, how they compete with the corporate media\, and what their long-term goals are. \n_____________________________ \nJosh Miller-Lewis co-founded More Perfect Union in 2021 and serves as Editor-In-Chief\, managing the newsroom. Under Josh’s leadership\, More Perfect Union has garnered over 2 billion video views and is now the fastest growing news channel on YouTube. Under his leadership MPU has been nominated for 10 Emmy’s and won one Emmy\, two Webby’s and two Sidney Hillman awards. Prior to co-founding More Perfect Union\, Josh served as Senator Bernie Sanders’ Communications Director and as Creative Director for Bernie 2020\, managing the first in-house TV & digital ad production team on a presidential campaign. \n_____________________________ \nHeather Kinlaw Lofthouse is the Executive Director of Inequality Media Civic Action and the Executive Producer of the documentary The Last Class. She is also the co-host of “The Coffee Klatch\,” a conversational podcast about the news of the week\, with her longtime collaborator Robert Reich. She has held leadership roles at universities and non-profit organizations in the fields of media\, education\, and global health.
