SUMMARY:Garden for the Environment: Growing a Garden: Where to Start Workshops 2026
DESCRIPTION:Do you have a space that you would like to turn into a garden\, but don’t know where to start? This class is perfect for beginner gardeners or anyone looking for a refresher. We will guide you through the steps to transform your yard into a beautiful garden\, including maintenance tips and where to find support and resources. We will also include information and advice on container gardening. This workshop will focus on working with nature\, observing your space\, and demystifying San Francisco’s unique microclimate. With your newfound knowledge\, you’ll be able to create a manageable garden that aligns with the space you have. Bring your questions! \nPlease note that this workshop focuses on perennial plant gardening\, NOT edible food growing. If you are interested in learning about edible plant growing\, please register for one of our Grow Your Own Food 2026 workshops. \nOur expert instructor Carey Craddock is a garden coach\, consultant\, and horticultural enthusiast. She has been teaching at Garden for the Environment since 1998\, first as a Get Up! intern\, and then as a staff member until 2003. She trained in both CCSF and Merritt College’s landscape horticulture programs\, and loves to combine her passion for art and horticulture into creative projects. She runs Carey Craddock Gardens where she specializes in ecological garden design and growing food. \nNo walk-up registration permitted for this course.

SUMMARY:18 Reasons: Japanese Bento Making - Online
DESCRIPTION:Camila just returned from a trip to Japan and is ready to cook with you! This class is inspired by Camila’s love for the Japanese bento\, a meal packed in a box. What is the difference between bento and just any packed lunch? The extra care that goes into the preparation. Bento meals feature balance as their main attribute\, so they satisfy not only the body but also the eye and the soul. Balance is present in Japanese meals\, usually around the number 5: colors (and thus nutrients)\, preparation techniques\, and flavors. \nCamila has been traveling yearly to Japan since 2017\, introducing and guiding small groups of Americans to the culture through its cuisine and crafts. She has learned much of her culinary knowledge from Eiko-san\, a wise woman in her 70s from a humble Kyoto neighborhood\, and the neighborhood community of women who gather to celebrate each of Camila’s visits. \nJoin Chef Camila as she streams from her home kitchen in Barcelona. Registrants will have access to a high-quality class video to rewatch as many times as they wish! Click here to see a sample video of what to expect in class. \nMENU \nChicken Teriyaki (or Shrimp or Tofu) \nTamagoyaki – Rolled Omelet \nQuick Pickled Cucumbers \nMiso-Glazed Eggplant \nJapanese Rice

SUMMARY:Z Space: Becoming a Man
DESCRIPTION:Written by P. Carl\nDirected by Lyam B. Gabel \nMay 28 – June 14\, 2026\nZ Space’s Steindler Stage \nFor 50 years\, P. Carl lived as a girl and then a queer woman\, building a career and a loving marriage while waiting to realize himself in full. When he decides to affirm his gender\, his transition puts everything—family\, career\, friendships—at stake. A stage production based on the memoir\, Becoming a Man is a poignant and honest story about the courage and community it takes to become one’s true self and poses the question: “When we change\, can the people we love come with us?” Following a world premiere production at American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) at Harvard University\, P. Carl’s acclaimed story comes to life in its West Coast premiere at Z Space. \nGenerously funded in part by Battery Powered\, The Sheri and Les Biller Family Foundation\, The Sam Mazza Foundation\, and The Zellerbach Family Foundation.

SUMMARY:Brava Theater: Rhodessa Jones returns to the Stage\, “Just Outside of Babylon\, There Is a Rude Paradise”
DESCRIPTION:Brava Presents\nA Theatrical Homecoming: Rhodessa Jones Returns to the Stage\, “Just Outside of Babylon\, There Is a Rude Paradise” \nJune 12-13\, 2026 \nJune 12\, 2026 : A Conversation with Rhodessa Jones and Joanna Haigood \nJune 13\, 2026: Rhodessa Jones Featuring The Medea Project\nFri-Sat @ 7pm\nBrava Mainstage \nLegendary San Francisco artist\, activist\, and storyteller Rhodessa Jones — creator and director of The MEDEA Project: Theatre for Incarcerated Women — returns to the stage this summer with “Just Outside of Babylon\, There Is a Rude Paradise: A Celebration of Love and a Love Letter to San Francisco.” The intimate\, two-night engagement will be performed Friday\, June 12\, and on Saturday\, June 13\, 2026\, featuring Rhodessa’s award-winning Medea Project: Theatre for Incarcerated Women/HIV Circle. Both shows will be at 7:00 PM at BRAVA Theater Center\, 2781 24th Street\, in the heart of the Mission District. \nPresented by Rhodessa Jones Productions with sponsorship and theatrical partnership from BRAVA! For Women in the Arts\, the evening is an offering of remembrance\, storytelling\, and a moment with one of the city’s most singular voices. For an artist whose life’s work has been devoted to lifting the stories of the unheard\, “Just Outside of Babylon” is both reflection and reckoning — a love letter to the San Francisco that shaped her\, and to the people\, places\, and movements that kept her making art inside jails\, on streets\, in living rooms\, and on the world’s great stages for nearly four decades. \nFor longtime followers of Rhodessa’s work\, this engagement marks an especially meaningful moment: it is expected to be her final press-promoted theatrical presentation for some time. Audiences are invited to attend a live interview with Johanna Haigood\, a well-known aerialist and choreographer in San Francisco\, California. \nThe Rhodessa Festival is funded by the San Francisco Arts Commission’s Legacy Artists Grant and Artist Impact Endowment\, the Zellerbach Family Fund\, the Fleishhacker Foundation and Brava! for Women in the Arts.

SUMMARY:Victoria Theatre: Bard Theatre presents BACCHAE
DESCRIPTION:SPECIAL EVENTS: \nJune 12th (Opening Night) – Join us for a special talkback after the show with translator Dr. Emily Wilson! (Included in ticket price). \nJune 13th – Join us for Community Night with specially priced discount tickets! \nThe BACCHAE is an electrifying Greek tragedy by Euripides\, which originally premiered shortly after his death in 405 B.C.E. The play centers around the proud and charismatic god of wine\, Dionysus\, and his reverent group of followers: the Bacchants. Threatened by their disregard for societal norms and gender roles\, the king of Thebes denies Dionysus’s godhood and seeks to destroy the Bacchants’ freedom and sacred\, ecstatic rituals. In return\, Dionysus shows him the bloody truth of what it means to deny the identity of a god. \nThis dance-forward\, world premiere performance of acclaimed classicist Dr. Emily Wilson’s vibrant translation focuses on themes of gender non-conformity\, bodily autonomy\, identity\, and community. So… “you would like to see what may disgust you?” \nWritten by Euripides / Translated by Dr. Emily Wilson\nAdapted by E.M. Ervolina & Edward Paddock\nChoreographed by Edward Paddock\nDirected by E.M. Ervolina
