SOMArts Cultural Center: 6th Annual “PUSH IT FORWARD” Art Auction

August 26, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Beloved community-based skate shop and youth education clubhouse, San Francisco Skate Club, has announced the date and line-up for its sixth-annual “Push It Forward” art auction and fundraiser for its successful EduSkate afterschool program.

WHEN: Saturday, August 26th 2023

1:00PM – 6:00PM

WHERE: SOMArts, 934 Brannan Street, San Francisco

WHAT: Skateboard deck art auction, raffles, skate films, food trucks & drinks – kids encouraged and welcomed!

OTHER: $5 donation at the door, pre-bid online at www.sfskateclub.com

After many challenges, from the pandemic and a slow economic recovery to losing co-founder Thuy Nguyen, San Francisco Skate Club has emerged stronger than before, stepping up its summer and afterschool programming to meet the community demand. The increased number of youth scholarships and workforce development opportunities coupled with the termination of COVID relief funds have meant that the organization is relying more than ever on a strong and generous showing at its Push It Forward 6 fundraiser.

More than 80 well-known and grassroots artists and skateboarders have signed on to contribute a skateboard deck to be auctioned off, along with hourly raffles and other prizes from generous donors. A youth skateboard film showcase will also be featured, along with delicious food & drink options from the tightknit community of local vendors who have long supported San Francisco Skate Club’s work. And the SF Skate Club retail store will have limited-edition merchandise for purchase.

Artists include big names like Ando, Alicia McCarthy, Tod the Bunny, ferris plock, Victor Reyes, Thomas Campbell, Jenny Sharaf and Jeffrey Cheung, along with lesser known up-and-coming artists like SUPER EXTRA FANCY and Clautopia (the latter whose piece last year was one of the most hotly contested bids in the art auction!)

The website will continue to be updated in the lead-up to the event, with musical acts also being added to the day-long program. Interviews with EduSkate participants and SF Skate Club staff available upon request, as well as previews of artist work.
