ODC Theater: David Harvey and Babatunji – Chimera

Chimera explores the many identities of one body – how they emerge through behavior, relationship, and embodiment. This dance work employs a sensitive physical language that combines care, wildness, intimacy, and enthusiasm, and centers on a duet between two men. The use of video design describes the often unseen implications of how relationships reveal hidden aspects of one’s own identity. Chimera contemplates the outlines of the self–their mutability, permeability, and how they overlap within the infinite undulating of context, environment, and relationship.
About the Artist
Dance artists David Harvey and Babatunji are long time friends and collaborators. They began working together while dancing for Alonzo King Lines Ballet and have cultivated a meaningful relationship based on playfulness, honesty, commitment, risk-taking, vulnerability, and process. Tending to this companionship is their primary creative goal together. This way of working leads to insightful and frank examinations of each other, of self, and of the worlds they belong to.
