Manny’s: Meet Chesa Boudin, SF District Attorney Candidate
July 18 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm
?Meet Chesa Boudin, SF District Attorney Candidate! ?
Chesa is a public defender running for San Francisco District Attorney in the upcoming 2019 election fighting for criminal justice reform — to eliminate racist disparities and equal enforcement of the law.
The event will feature refreshments, a short talk by Chesa, followed by a Q&A. ($20 suggested donation.)
As a San Francisco Deputy Public Defender, Chesa has a direct understanding of what it takes to reduce our staggering recidivism rates and redirect those arrested towards school and employment. He has handled more than 300 felony cases including attempted murder, shootings, stabbings, drug sales, kidnapping, and auto burglary.
Chesa has also been a leader in San Francisco and across the country for fundamental criminal justice reform. He has led efforts in San Francisco and California to reform our unfair bail system, protect immigrants from deportation, and establish a pretrial release program to increase equity by allowing defendants to keep their jobs and housing while navigating the system.
If elected, Chesa will work to:
✅End mass incarceration
✅Give crime victims a voice in every case
✅Eliminate cash bail
✅Equal enforcement of the law
✅End racist disparities
✅Treat every arrest as an opportunity for intervention
✅Focus resources on serious and violent felonies
Chesa’s commitment to criminal justice reform is deeply personal. His parents were incarcerated when he was just fourteen months old for driving the getaway car in a robbery that tragically took the lives of three men.
Chesa’s father is still in prison. Chesa knows first-hand the destructive impacts of mass incarceration — he had to go through a metal detector and steel gates just to give his parents a hug. He watched children he grew up with end up in prison themselves.
Beginning as early as high school, he spoke out on behalf of children of incarcerated parents. The experience inspired Chesa to dedicate his career to understanding and improving the criminal justice system for everyone.
Chesa has been endorsed by Angela Davis, Shaun King, Hillary Ronen, Eric Mar, Jane Kim, Sandra Fewer, Aaron Peskin, and many other community leaders. https://www.chesaboudin.com/endorsements
