Luna Rienne Gallery: The Thin Places by Chris Stokes (opening reception)

Luna Rienne Gallery is pleased to present The Thin Places, a solo exhibition featuring San Francisco artist Chris Stokes.
The Thin Places is a collection of works that examines the porous veil between two existences — heaven and earth, light and dark, this world and the other. Crossing the veil shifts the delicate equilibrium of light, life, and color, which are pushed and pulled into each landscape. When the veil returns, it releases these elements to be reclaimed by its previous existence. Stokes addresses this tenuous relationship and the resulting effects of the tension.
In addition to his solo exhibition, Luna Rienne Gallery will be launching the crowdfunding campaign for their new parklet, designed by Stokes.
Chris Stokes uses mixed media to interlace and layer unassuming combinations of color, lines and found materials. Elements from literature, cultural symbols, and architecture meld together to become art that equals more than the sum of its parts. Born in Philadelphia, the long-time San Francisco resident’s work is a reflection of his travels, his ever-evolving perspective of the world, and an interest in science fiction. The resulting pieces represent new landscapes and structures that seem barely possible.
The Thin Places will be on exhibit from May 13 through June 11, 2023 at Luna Rienne Gallery, 3318 22nd Street near Valencia in San Francisco, which features visual artists working in contemporary mediums who integrate elements of urban culture with traditional techniques. The opening reception will be held on Saturday, May 13, from 6PM until 9PM.
