Luna Rienne Gallery: Different Perspectives (opening reception)
November 9, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Luna Rienne Gallery is pleased to present Different Perspectives, a two-person exhibition featuring San Francisco artists and married couple Anthony Holdsworth and Beryl Landau.
Showcasing their recent painting expedition through Italy as well as everyday life in San Francisco, Different Perspectives portrays each artist’s individualistic eye and hand during their shared experience. Holdsworth plein air oil paintings attempt to capture the energy of a particular place while Landau’s studio acrylics evoke a feeling about that place. The couple met in 1980 during an SFAI alumni show at SOMArts Gallery.
Anthony Holdsworth was born in England and embarked on a painting career while working as Head of Outdoor Restoration for the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy. He continued his studies at the Bournemouth College of Art in England, and then the San Francisco Art Institute. Originally a landscape artist influenced by the Bay Area Figurative Art movement, Holdsworth began painting plein air cityscapes near his Oakland studio. Eventually he made his way to San Francisco’s Mission District, as well as more detailed renderings. He has shown with major galleries through California and has been a recipient of the WESTAF-NEA fellowship. Holdsworth lives in San Francisco, and works both there and in Oakland.
Beryl Landau is a San Francisco-based artist who describes her work as “symbolic landscape”. Her acrylic paintings depict geographical locations rendered in a manner that evokes feelings about them. Born in New York City, Landau moved to Santa Monica CA at the age of 15, then arrived in San Francisco in the 1960s to attain BFA and MFA degrees at the San Francisco Art Institute. Her teachers included Richard Diebenkorn, Elmer Bischoff, and Joan Brown. She lives and works in Bernal Heights.
Different Perspectives will be on exhibit from November 9 through December 2, 2019 at Luna Rienne Gallery, 3318 22nd Street near Valencia in San Francisco, which features visual artists working in contemporary mediums who integrate elements of urban culture with traditional techniques.
The opening reception will be held on Saturday, November 9, from 6PM until 9PM.
