Gray Area Grand Theater: The Mind’s Eye with Steven Churchill

On April 19, join us at Gray Area for a special presentation of The Mind’s Eye: A Computer Animation Odyssey, the iconic CGI visual-music film first released in 1992. In this world premiere event, Mind’s Eye producer Steven Churchill will deliver a lively show-and-tell leading the audience through the trailblazing video series.

Scored note to frame, this first-of-its-kind art film series offers rich insight into the legacy of experimental computer animation from the technology’s infancy. Compiling digitally-produced footage from a variety of studios in an emblematic example of new media remix culture, The Mind’s Eye and subsequent films anticipated major box office hits like Toy Story and Shrek.

In his presentation, Churchill will present The Mind’s Eye (35 minutes) in its entirety, along with discussion and highlight excerpts from Beyond the Mind’s Eye, The Gate to the Mind’s Eye, and Odyssey Into the Mind’s Eye.
