Brava Theater: Indómitas: Live Podcast with guest Ligia Montano

Indómitas is a live monthly podcast series hosted by Chelis López of KPOO and Radio Bilingüe, featuring untamable voices of fierce women artists and activists. For the February 2025 podcast, Indómitas will interview Ligia Montano, a fierce senior and disability activist and organizer.

LIGIA MONTANO

Ligia comes from a working-class Latino family. All her life, her parents set a good example for her. She grew up in Nicaragua and Costa Rica. She’s a single mother living in the Portola District. She became a parent organizer at her daughter’s pre-school, and later she worked as parent organizer at Coleman Advocates for Children and Youth. At Coleman she worked with parents whose children experience all kinds of injustice. Currently, she works for Senior and Disability Action (SDA). For over 10 years Ligia has been working for changes in the way our city marginalizes seniors and persons with disabilities.

Ligia proviene de una familia latina de clase trabajadora. Toda su vida, sus padres le dieron un buen ejemplo. Creció en Nicaragua y Costa Rica. Es madre soltera y vive en el distrito de Portola. Se convirtió en organizadora de padres en el preescolar de su hija y luego trabajó como organizadora de padres en Coleman Advocates for Children and Youth. En Coleman trabajó con padres cuyos hijos experimentan todo tipo de injusticia. Actualmente, trabaja para Senior and Disability Action (SDA). Durante más de 10 años, Ligia ha estado trabajando para cambiar la forma en que nuestra ciudad margina a las personas mayores y a las personas con discapacidad.

Each month in Brava’s Cabaret, Indómitas will interview female singers, writers, poets, activists, artists, journalists, filmmakers, and others – some well-known and some deserving to be – for live broadcast. These 60-minute conversations will cover the women’s stories of achievement, pitfalls, and hopes for their futures.
